N52 Exaust VANOS Mechanism error, changed twice, rough idle and missifres
I have been battling with rough idle and nearly no power about a month.
Everything started with recently purchased e92 2007/07 with N52K. Going over 4K revs I was getting a missfire code and very rough idle
I bough aftermarked VANOS Solenoids and reset adaptations, and the Vanos 2A87 code dissapeared but the idle suddenly was so bad engine was stalling and car barely drove. I though there was fault with non-oem ones so I plugged back original and idle was instantly better on cold but started to have very rought idle was warmer . Also I suddenly noticed new code that appeared randomly
Errors that appeared
I tried most popular solutions I changed new oil, changed old filer and made sure o-rings are correctly attached. Old oild was really bad and old filter detached from oilcap when I took it out and previous owner did not install small o ring correctly on filter I installed OEM Vanos solenoids and suddenly the idle was really bad instantly (unlike when old solenoids are installed, car works fine for a while) When I installed solenoids and tried to run a car for a while I suddenly had strong vibrations and new codes appeared - -P1632 Throttle Valve Adaptation, Adaptation Conditions not met but Im guessing i started a car too early before adaptations were not finished and car was not in sleep mode. Also previous -P0015 B Camshaft position - Timing over retarded Bank 1 and something new -00,05,14,17(P1417) Please Refer to manual. I cleaned MAF and tried to locate If I had air leak but couldn't seem to find any When disconnecting MAF I couldn't tell if anything changed since with the very rought idle seemed random to shake engine randomly. Tomorrow I'll check VANOS Valves to see if they are dirty but I'm out of ideas after that |

Anyone able to assist? I I am completely out of ideas, feels like I've tried everything that culd be inderectly affecting it
I managed to get rid of VANOS exaust code but it sometimes popped back. Now I only mostly have P0015 code "B Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded Bank 1" Now idle is so rough on cold that car even stalls sometimes but when it warms up, the idle is perfect, however the performacne is really sluggish after 2nd gear and barely drives. check engine pops for a second and dissapears from dashboard. P00150 error shows in ecu. I tried swapping camshaft sensors and I had P0016 code for A Camshaft position bank 1 appearing once and then dissapearing and never showing again. Extra steps I've taken so far Swapped OEM Vanos solenoids Cleaned VANOS filters I had a missfire in 3rd cylinder at the start stage so I swapped new oem coil New OEM Map New OEM Maf Swapped camshaft sensors intake to outtake but P0015 still persists. During testing I had some extra codes popping sometimes, they might be less related during some sensors being replugged, but most commons were: 2A9A DME: Crankshaft - Inlet Camshaft, Synchrinization P113 Intake Air temp sensor 1, circuit high bank 1 P00BD - AirFlow too high When idle was really rought, settings for Ignition Timing Advance ffor #1 Cylinder was jumping from -4500BTDC to 3000 BTDC and when car is working fine it's around 0 I used ISTA to reset adaptations, I know there have been a recall for VANOS bolts snapping for N52 but seems behicles from 2009 are affected. Mine is 2007/08. Does anyone has any ideas? I have a feeling I have tried everything there can be on forums. |

I have taken off Valve cover. I'm yet about to check the timing, waiting for the tool but it seems the right camshaft visually looking seems to be more in upward position than left. Would engine even ever work correctly if they would've jumped timings? I had no issues on warm idle.
My other question is the exqust VANOS doesn not have the snappy feeling that intake VANOS has. The bolts are not stripped and seem to sit in well. When moving it the camshaft seems to move with it without any delays but Im just not getting the same snappy feel for it. I have attached a video. Any advice? https://youtube.com/shorts/5Wz6jjykF9Y |
