It will keep the bigger birds, possums and raccoons out. Will still have to monitor and keep clean from smaller debris (like a nascar pit stop) to allow for continual fresh air in.

I don't think so, as that sits in the centre. Maybe for an option that is only available in specific countries.

Can someone confirm if all Autos don’t get the front grill protection?

One reason I can think of is that the Autos get the transmission cooler in the M3/M4 competition models which is mounted in the front bottom part. Maybe that’s why?

I hope there are some aftermarket wire mesh or other solutions soon. I hit a piece of retread in my 440i a couple years back and it destroyed all the plastic fins in the grill but the radiator was untouched. If it had been one of these I have no doubt both the oil cooler and radiator would have been taken out.

So from the walk around videos that are out so far it’s confirmed that the manual transmission cars definetly get all three front radiator grills protection (front and the two sides).

BUT the Automatic does not get the front lower radiator grill protection (exactly as shown in the Carwow video). This is a real bummer and a worry for those of us (like me) who are getting an automatic.

Can someone who has or has seen autos please confirm this?

Yeah, this is going to be a bear to keep clean. It looks like leaves and who knows what else end up sucked up and wedged in there. I have a feeling it’s going to be one of the number one gripes owners have about the car.

EDIT: If you zoom into the pic you can see there are even whole leaves stuck behind the guard.

It’s a screen capture from a video of one that was spotted parked in the wild. The car was a manual.

Got it, thanks. Yeah all the information so far suggests Manuals have it, autos don’t.

Yes that is also what i have noticed after seeing the car in person and in the videos.I wonder what the reason is as to why only the manual cars get it.

I think this is serious enough to choose the manual.

My suspicion is that autos have the extra transmission cooler that manuals do not need, so they need more air flowing through. Either way, MT is the way to go.

True. The Auto cars have the transmission cooler there.

With regards to the MT is the way to go - Not if getting the most performance from the car on street or on track is your priority (like it is mine). If manuals are what floats your boat, great. But for a high horsepower engine like this, autos make a lot of sense for many who want engagement beyond 3 pedals and stick.

I have to disagree with that statement. I've tracked plenty of 500+ hp modern cars to know it only takes a skilled driver to put out equal or better lap times out of the manual. Auto makes it easier but it has its downsides - heavier rotating mass at all times, more stuff to break, overheating etc.

If it were M-DCT instead I would agree with your statement, but not with the ZF8.

There are a lot of points I can counter with but that’s not the point of this thread, so let’s leave it at that. It’s a good thing we both have a choice and can pick our poison. But certainly no right answer here.

Just wanted to bring this discussion again. Has anybody attempted to install the bottle radiator guard on your M2? I purchased a zunsport guard, but I feel like it is still not protective enough for driving. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...BoCB0IQAvD_BwE

Sales manager ordered bottom radiator grille for me but haven’t installed it yet. I don’t know if it even fits into auto cars
