I had no idea an insurance broker even existed. Sounds like we should probably speak with one soon to see what others offer out there.

Definitely at least worth a look! And if you want to bundle home, boat, motorcycle or none they will work with you. They also do the leg work if you ever need to change or anything else. I first got turned onto it from a friend who used one for their business and have used them ever since.

Make sure they work with all insurance companies though. Sometimes they only work with a limited number. We used one for several years but then I became suspicious when the comparison quotes they kept providing were between the same 3 companies. I ended up getting quotes on my own from different companies and saving a lot of money. Then the broker we had worked with for 4 years just ghosted us

IDK how I'm getting these rates. I'm 40 and in TX. I don't think I have any tickets on my recent record but I have been rear ended twice in the same car within 6 years in my past civic. Both not at fault. Second time my insurance had to pay, and I don't think the other insurance paid. My premium hasn't been affected, just gradually went to along with everyone else. My current car is a 2020 Accord.

Progressive was about the same, but playing around with the deductible and such I could make it 250$ a month instead of 350$

I will check with the insurance broker I used to shop for insurance for my daughter in a different state.

eh I'm 40 years old with no accidents ever and no tickets in over 10 years and I pay 1,303 for 6 month for my m2 but its a multi car / house so it gest 'discounts' also, but Michigan is very difficult with insurance. this is for full coverage with 250 deductible. I am sure that I could get it lower if I play with the coverages but I don't think it would be too different.

I got a quick quote out of curiosity from a broker style agent, and I was getting something similar to this.

Similar age, no tickets, no accidents, etc.

Cray cray.

At least I don't feel it's just me, I won't have the car until maybe 2 months so I have time to make something work

Lol no conspiracy here. I wouldn't post that I don't know I'm being charged what I am, while keeping the big secret. But your comment actually gave me an idea to get a copy of my driving record. Most recent thing is the not at fault accident in which I was rear ended, no injury though. Given that, I don't think I'm such a terrible person to insure given my record.

Haha, I was just giving you a hard time, but glad you pulled your record yourself. LexisNexis (the record system insurance companies use) is a steaming pile of garbage. I've had to dispute things over the years with the accuracy and timeliness of their reports. Definitely don't be afraid to shop around, and be sure to bundle things like home insurance, multiple cars, etc. Also, if you have any kids at your home address, make sure you're designating them as non-drivers on any kind of performance vehicles. A lot of insurance companies make assumptions for you if you let them. That's how you end up with absurd quotes.

Out of curiosity, I asked my insurance agent about the cost of insuring a Porsche 718 (I quickly found one with specs similar to what I would have chosen). He said it was much cheaper because it was NOT a performance vehicle.

So, where do they draw the line for what is and what is not a performance vehicle?

What is the best place to pull driving record?

I just tried pulling mine from CA DMV but it was just a blank document I paid $2 for.

A lot of these insurance comparisons are meaningless without knowing the deductible and coverages.

2024 BMW M2

Suburbs of the Twin Cities of Minnesota

Garage kept, second car (primary car is a 2023 Mazda CX-30 that is $10 a month cheaper with same coverages). Also have homeowners with them.

I am kind of old
10+ year accident-free policy
No tickets

Coverages:

Deductible $1,000 comp and collision (full glass coverage)
250K/500K/300K limits
Uninsured/Underinsured 250K/500K

PIP with Stacking two cars

Also have $2 million Liability Umbrella that extends these coverages out to $2 million for all liability (home and cars) as well as underinsured and uninsured car coverage. Great peace of mind for about $500 a year. I am grandfathered in with SF as they do not write these policies anymore.

Total every 6 months....wait for it.....

$599 every 6 months for the auto policy and $495 a year for liability umbrella.

That's a pretty attractive premium cost.

I do not have an umbrella policy. My limited experience has been one signs up for an UP at a very attractive rate. Next year the premium goes up some. Then the year after that some more. And so on.

A (retired) friend of mine signed up for a $1M UP at (way back then) $75/year! But after several years of premium increases he dropped the UP coverage. The increase in the cost per year was becoming troubling and it wasn't leveling off.

These insurance rates vary greatly due to a lot of factors; geography, age, driving record, home/auto same carrier, etc.

It is very hard to compare without knowing a lot of the circumstances behind the person.

The peace of mind I get with the $2m in coverage for about $500 a year is well worth it. Besides, as it has underinsured/uninsured coverage I can go back after my own policy if I suffer injuries not covered by the other person. I know there are better companies out there than SF but having been grandfathered in to keep that policy means a lot.

Yes I under stand it is hard to get an apples to apples comparison when it comes to car insurance.

Still my car insurance is about the same as yours. The coverage limits and deductibles are the same.

Comp/Collision: Deductible $1,000
Bodily injury: 250K/500K/100K
Uninsured/Underinsured 250K/500K/100K limits

Asked that emergency road side assistance and car rental/travel expenses coverage be removed but I see on the declaration page they are still present. Got to get those removed.

I have two cars insured and I also get my renters (apartment) insurance from State Farm. So I get a multiple car and multiple policy discount.

(While I live in an apartment both cars are garaged here.)

Miles per year is listed as 12,000. I drive fewer miles but State Farm has 12,000 miles as its lowest number of miles driven. I won't put 12,000 total on both my cars in a year.

Cars are listed with no assigned driver. SF rep claims that is the least expensive assignment. Also, usage assigned to both cars is work, school, pleasure. I told rep I don't work or go to to school but as with the 12,000/year mileage the usage is fixed.

I'm 72. Retired. No commute. Live alone. Two cars. No other drivers. No claims for 6 years. No tickets in I forget how long ago. Oh wait the last ticket that I was not able to get dismissed was back in Sept. 2009. Cost me 1 point and $75. The point was gone after 6 months.

Live in northwest Arkansas, Benton County.

My 2023 M2 insurance premium for 6 months is $775.

My 2024 230i xDrive insurance premium for 6 months is $550.

Total 1 year insurance cost is $2650.

I was looking at a 2024 M240i xDrive and the difference between the M240i and the M2 was only $4 every 6 months lol

Our coverages are slightly different as I have 250/500/300 but not all that different. I also don't have the rental car coverage as my wife flies to her work locations so we always have an extra car around

The way SF works their policies is interesting. Both the Mustang and her X3 had 10 year accident free policies but it was $100 every 6 months less to put the M2 on the X3 policy and cancel the Mustang policy instead of the other way around. Always pays to run it different ways!!

Do you have PIP stacking in Arkansas?

My parents use to have a place in Bella Vista back in the 90s. Beautiful area.

Missed the 300K vs. 100K difference. Thanks for catching that.

Don't think PIP (Personal Injury Protection -- I had to look it up I had not heard of this before) is available here. AR doesn't have any no fault insurance laws that I'm aware of.

I see nothing on the declaration pages that appear to have anything to do with that coverage.

There is uninsured and under insured motorist coverage. Bodily injury limits are 250K/500K and a property damage limit of 100K.

Yes, Bella Vista is a beautiful area. Briefly looked at houses in that area but stopped. I'm not fan of living in a area with the roads that Bella Vista has -- hilly/curvy/rather "narrow" -- when said area is subject to snow/ice in the winter.
