2007 E92 2.0i - Timing Chain Rattle/Change
Hi all,
Just back from MOT/Service of my 2007 E92 2.0i and the mechanic reported that the timing chain was beginning to rattle and should be replaced urgently. I understand the timing chain is a weakness of these N43 engines? Has anyone had a quote/know how much the reasonable cost would be to replace? Would you be able to get away with just changing the tensioner perhaps? Thanks very much for your help, very much appreciated! George |

Hi George,
from what I've heard parts alone aren't too bad, between 100-200 quid, labor can vary a lot depending if the rails and guides are intact I believe, 700-900 quid I think I read somewhere. Yes if its caught early enough before the chain is too worn the tensioner can just be replaced for about 30 quid I think. I'd be interested to hear it though if possible, if not a description would help. I'm experiencing an elusive engine bay rattle myself but cant see anything that obvious, neither can I find someone with a similar sound. I have an inkling its timing chain related. Cheers Joss |
