Mystery bushing found under car
I removed my plastic underside cover on my 2011 328i and this dome shaped rubber bushing or grommet fell out. Does anyone know what it is?

(I just replaced the engine mounts so I eliminated those as the cause) Last edited by knightvd; 11-26-2018 at 08:04 AM.. Reason: Images not showing |

That is a grommet that goes under the air filter box.

This has been asked several times. It's the bushing at the bottom of the air box. It sits in serrated stud in the framerail and the round side fits in a recess in the bottom of the air box. Pull the air box and turn it over and you'll understand. When the box is removed the rubber bushing sticks to the air box then falls out and sits on the belly pan until someone removes the pan.

I've actually dropped that stupid thing in the tray about 50 times on the 325. I think it is a little worn and doesn't stay on the frame rail like it does on the 328. I'll pick up the airbox then hear some thing drop onto the plastic under tray.

Will the Airbox be ok without it? I ran into this the other day when flushing my power steering. I removed the underbelly and that little guy fell down with it. I didn't know what it was so I set it to the side.
