Leather seat dye coming off on clothing.
I have red leather seats in my car. Coral red I think. In the past few years, when it's hot and I'm sweating even when the AC is on full blast, I'm getting some red transfer onto my shirts. Even wiping the seats with a wet wipe with medium pressure, I'm getting colour transfer.
Do these leather seats need a "service" every few years and perhaps some kind of sealant reapplied? I gather there is some sort of protective coating from the factory? |

That's really strange--never heard of that from a factory dyed seat. I wonder if someone either dyed them or did a touch up on them and that's what's transferring off. Can you get the rears to transfer to a wet wipe?

So, update. I tried wiping all the leather with a wet wipe again and the only places I could get the colour to come off was the lower to mid back area of the driver's seat and a small patch on the armrest. I know for a fact I caused the armrest as it's a small, roughly 1cm2 patch I was trying to clean some grubby spot from and I distinctly remember rubbing off a very fine film in this area. Almost like a very fine, dried PVA glue.
The rest of the driver's seat seems fine with nothing obvious indicating it's been dyed again. |
