2009 Bmw E90 Stereo
Hello guys. First time on this forum so I am only getting used to this so please bear with me. Thank you.
I recently bought my first 2009 bmw 323i. The car is such a beautiful machine in comparison to what I drove before. However after buying, I realized that bmw sells things in packages and whoever purchased my car originally opted for the base stereo system. (2 door panel speakers, 2 under car subwoofers, and 2 back speakers) From the knowledge I gathered, I understand that the stereo is highly equalized and thats the reason when I turn up the volume, it does not even sound loud and even then it pops and distorts on a consistent basis. I live in Toronto Ontario and here are the options I found from my own little research: 1. Dynavin/dynavin look alike gps navigation upgrade for $699 that will still give me steering wheel and heated seats function and also increase the output volume of my music 2.opting for pioneer navi system but I am not sure if I will lose my heated seats function or if I can maintain steering wheel controls 3.Some people say I should code the original unit to hifi and so when I contacted people that do the coding, they said that coding it to hifi will make little to no difference at all :S 4.Some people say I have to change the head unit, the speakers and add in tweeters and an amp to get louder, clearer volume. Everyone I talked to is giving me different stories so I want to ask people that actually know what they are talking about. I am sorry if there are posts about this that I havent found and I do not want to sound annoying, just would like to get some help as I am a new owner of a bmw and would like honest answers into my options. Thank you so much guys |

First off, welcome to the forums.
From what I've seen on here, people love the Dynavin system. It gives OEM looks and lets you retain all your features. IMO if I were you I'd go that route. Good luck, post pics, and keep us updated!!

I guess the first question is if you have a center speaker in the dash?
The answer to that question makes a huge difference in the available options.

CTuna will likely drop in here and post his "how to/where to" posting very shortly. Or you can search for his posts and find one, or you can go to the subforum on Audio and find all the info.
You (likely) have the Base system. The two easiest upgrade options are Bav Sound or the OEM Alpine upgrades. Both add door tweeters and an amp, and better door speakers. They both cost about the same. |

I do not have speakers on the dash. The oem alpine upgrade has to be done at the dealership? I'm guessing that will be on a ball park figure $1000+?
You all have been great with the feed back. Lol I wish I was well informed as you guys are...then I would know what is my best option and my "bang for the buck" deal |

You have to know what you are starting with
You have to know what you are starting with.
Which of the three sound systems? What do you want to accomplish ? How much are you willing to spend ? A head unit will give you better features but not always better sound. If you change the Head Unit it does not apply. There are side effects from changing the Head Unit. BMW will not be able to run diagnostics or repair the car without the original Head Unit reinstalled or parallel mounted. There may be error codes if you have SOS and PDC will cease to work. |
