Car shaking on idle

I was sitting at a stoplight when my car started shaking and the RPM gauge showed it shuttering up and down quickly. This is the 2nd or 3rd time my car has ever done this. I noticed it’s usually when the car is cold and after the car turns back on from auto start/stop function. I’m currently just under 3,000 miles. Has this happened to anyone else or may possibly have an idea of what this could be considering the car is so new? Thanks

Here's a thread that discusses the issue you seem to be having.

Thanks for sharing this thread. It seems the shared issue in that thread does not affect RPMs or being able to see the issue. The RPM gauge shuttered along with the entire car. Dreading doing it but may have to bring it to the dealership.

The crazy thing is that I got gas and then drove across the road to go to the red light where it did it 🤔🤔 Makes me wonder what it could be.

I recall a previous thread on this -- the thread link was provided by wb1864 -- and I even contributed a post or two.

It appears the behavior is not low battery related.

I did trade in my 2022 230i for an M2 April 14, 2023.

Have put just over 6000 miles on the M2 and it has been perfect.

But Dec 1 of 2023 bought a 2024 230i xDrive. Just a skosh over 2K miles and so far the car has been perfect. I hope it remains that way. (Of course having posted this I've probably jinxed the car...)

For your car and those of others I have some possible explanations but nothing concrete. Trouble is some telemetry needs to be logged and examined. I'm thinking of the low pressure fuel system pressure and the valve timing and possibly valve lift values.

Which means I suspect a transient low pressure fuel system problem (fuel pump) (my 2020 M-B cargo van went through 2 low pressure fuel pumps) or I suspect a transient issue with the variable valve timing/lift.

It could prove enlightening to have the low pressure fuel system pressure and variable valve timing/lift telemetry to view and look for any extraordinary, though relatively brief, change in either.
