Rear seat cover/hammock for dog

Has anyone found a rear seat cover that fits the G42 well?

I ordered one from Amazon that works, but it does not fit/look all that great. I wish a company would make vehicle specific covers that fit perfectly.

You take your dog in this car? Man, I'd buy a beater to take my dog in before letting it into this car. I'm even debating if I'm gonna let my kid ride in it yet.

Yeah, it's my daily so I have to. My dog isn't destructive and doesn't barf or anything, just want to keep surfaces unscratched etc

I gotcha. You're right though, more car specific would be nice, but not really a thing.

Maybe this is something WeatherTech should move into. I mean, I'm sure the "cupfone" was a huge success, but custom fit seat covers would be massive.

I found that BMW made them for the E90/E92, it fit like a glove

I have been debating getting a hammock for my car. I don't love the idea of all the dog fur, but it means more excuses to drive my car!

We have an orvis brand hammock in our X3 and it works great, but I don't know how it would work in a coupe - especially when trying to get the dog in. I also don't know how much the raised middle would bother the dog.

If anyone is hauling a bigger dog (50 lbs+) in a G42 I would love details/pictures!

Yeah, they don't seem to design these for coupes. I thought about laying a thick blanket across the entire back seat beneath the hammock to provide some cushion over the center area, but that would eliminate the anti-slip function of the hammock.

I don't want to drive a beater just for the dog, and I bring my dog everywhere I can..so I'm hoping to find the best seat protection possible

When I wash the hammock from the x3 next I will try in my car and see how it goes. It has two layers, so padding might fit between layers okay.

Here's a pic, it's sloppy but it works. The driver side anchors to the headrest so it forms into a hammock while all buttoned up

I've been thinking about this myself. It seems like a hammock style seat cover would work pretty well if you can hang the sides up: link.

My biggest concern would be getting in and out of the back without inadvertently scratching something. May need to add some kind of custom flap for additional protection.

Yeah, I've thought about the plastic trim getting scratched and will likely put film over it eventually.

I want to find a way to secure the sides of the hammock but don't want to use suction cups on the windows. It works as is, my dog usually stands dead center facing forward and eventually lays down.

My dog is still working on the getting in and out part. Took him like a year to figure out the x3... so might be a while. I figure a few scratches and some fur are worth it to have my buddy with me.

I didn't even think about the lack of grab handles for hooking up the sides. It would be nice if someone made a seat cover with more rigid sides.

I've got a few months to figure this out at least. I'll report back if I find something promising.

Maybe some strong E-ZPass style velcro tape stuck to the sides could work

I highly recommend the e92 backseat cover for our G42 M240i. I am in a manual wheelchair, so I need to keep the rear seats and the back of the front seats protected. I still kept mine from my 2013 335is and it fit my C43 coupe after and now the M240i. Covers the entire back seat, sides, and the back of the front seats so you're protected all around. It has plastic sliders that go under the seats and in the rear windows to make it "fitted". Don't mind mine being a little worn/dirty but I've had it for 9 years now and it's a great fit and better protection than anything that I've seen available in the aftermarket.

If you can find one on e-bay, etc., you'll be very happy with it.

Thanks for responding. That looks good, how does it secure near the side window?

The other problem is my dog wants to be up front with me, as he rode in the passenger seat in my BRZ for the past 2 years. My current cover has a blocker there...I guess the seatbelt I have for him can keep him in place. I assume there are seat belt openings on that?

Happy to help out. Yup,. there's a plastic tab that inserts into the space between the window and the top of the door trim. You can kinda see it on the 2nd photo on the driver's side. I found that sometimes they slip out, so adding like a black electric tape around the plastic tab thickens them and makes them stay in place better. Now, they do have a zipper in the middle in case you want to put the rear seats down for more trunk space but I don't recommend it cuz those zippers are not quality and I wouldn't risk using them often. It's much easier to just pull the entire cover down if you need to.

Yes, there are seatbelt openings in this cover. I used to pull the red seatbelt pieces through on my e92.

Wow that's great... shame they aren't making it anymore. It did lead me to this though, which is similar and looks rugged:

Maybe an option

Yeah, those look like they are made of the same material as mine. They'll be a little big I think because they are meant for the X5/6 series, but still better than aftermarket.

I think I'm probably going to give this one a try in the box setup behind either the driver or passenger seat. Looks to be a bit thicker and more durable, can be configured to have 4 walls, and doesn't need to be attached to the handles.

Has anyone found any good fitting covers for the backseat? I no longer need the hammock style, just a nice fitting cover for the bottom cushions.
