Dealer Recommendation / Coilover Advice
I've been lurking around the forums for quite sometime now but I guess it's time I started posting. Although I was hoping I could hold out until my review / semi-diy on my first round of mods I am going to be the new guy with questions. Hopefully since we are all neighbors here it will be gentle. On to the point:
I am looking for a dealer that is alright with bolt-on mods such as exhaust, FMIC, wheels, coils, etc. From my searching it sounds like Tischer would fit the bill if I talk to the correct person. If this is accurate how do you go about making the appointment with specifically them without sounding weird. If there is somewhere better let me know, anything within a few hours drive would fit the bill as I figure a couple hours driving the car I love is better than spending all weekend taking off and putting on mods with a jack solo style. My other question is in regards to coilovers. In my searching I think I can handle the coilover install itself but I am intimidated by the adjustability of the camber plates that I have. They are Vorshlag camber plates. My gameplan is to get the coilovers and camber plates on accurately enough to drive an hour to where I am picking up my rims/tires and having the fenders rolled. After we get the stance right then head to an alignment shop. After looking at the degree of adjustability on the camber plates I am unsure that it would be safe to drive that kind of distance based on my eyeballing the adjustments. If there is a good guide anyone knows of or a guy to talk to I would appreciate the help. Thanks for any input and I hope to see you around -Paul |

I used to adjust camber on my old car by using a block of wood against the face of the rim and then using an angle finder against that. jsut find out what is "in spec" angle wise and you should be fine. Improper camber is a great way to ruin a set of tires in no time at all.
(I only did my own camber since the alignment shops in my area were all stupid and couldnt' figure out how to align my coils)

Alright figured I'd do an update with a ninja quick exhaust video. Couple of disclaimers: the Christmas music is the tacky lawn decorations next door, the focus problem I think is the Christmas lights in the upper right hand corner, it was a little windy, it was shot on a digital still camera, and I edited it in like 5 min on the free windows program. Outside of that it's AWESOME I swear.
Seriously though I am very satisfied with the exhaust. I met up with Blackbenzz at ISP Racing on the 4th and did the dyno thing. I got a solid baseline and the car sounded amazing. I made a pass at the coilover thing the next morning. For the record it's not something someone should take on with zero experience and dinner reservations a three hour drive away. It just ends badly. I did end up meeting a guy at the ISP Race shop thing that was able to recommend a couple more dealers that would work with me on mods. Overall seemed like a cool group of people. Better video, pics, and DIY's to come shortly. *thanks for the input/advice* |

I stopped through for the tail end of their install. They actually reinforced my plan of doing it myself however as far as I know they did coilovers only, no camber plates involved. I also didn't want to fill anyone's inbox with random questions and hoped maybe there was a good guide somewhere on the interwebs I had missed.

I'm not too knowledgable on the harder DIY stuff, but if you need a second pair of hands for mods, let me know and I will see if I can make it. I'm in Frederick.

Dinan's website is prices only. You'll have to contact your local dealer for install prices.

Update:
I finally got my German warranty converted over to the US version and made my 15k service appointment for 7:30am. I left on my 55min drive at 6:00am. Three hours later I arrived at Tischer . Apparently this whole east coast commuter traffic thing happens before the sun comes up. Who knew. Point being I was unable to talk to Kevin but everything went smoothly. I'll post up a more thorough review once I'm able to address some of my more involved service requests (oil cooler retrofit etc). Coilovers are now on with the new rims and are amazing. Totally changed the look of the car. In order of appearance (excuse the dirty car, all pictures on X hours from home): 1: Before Shot #1 2: Before Shot #2 (Nurburgring FTW) 3: Crappy Just Got The Wheels On Night Pic #1 4: Crappy Just Got The Wheels On Night Pic #2 5: Even The Valve Stems Are Hidden Pic 6: Yay Camber Pic |

New somewhat less terrible pictures. Any thoughts or commentary would be welcomed as I need to take the rims back off here after this storm rolls through and get the winter tires on.
