Not sure if someone already pointed this out, but in the website BMW specifically calls out the hybrid system in the 3 series but there is no mention of it for the 2024 2 series so my guess would be that’s a typo and it doesn’t actually get it.

Stating the M240i gets the hybrid system and having a pic of one on the page would be a pretty big screwup if its not true- more than just a typo.

Depends on the load. With Waze and music on it will get hot and possibly shut down. With bare bones activity it will be fine. In my Z4 I ended up not using it at all. I expect the G42 to be the same.

With CarPlay on Nav the phone got a bit toasty while charging, also it charges super slow. With CarPlay Nav on, after 30 mins it only charges 1%. If not suing the phone, it maybe charges 5% in about 30 mins.

Been doing a little research on this system and I found this:
"BMW says the main purpose of the hybrid system here is to boost passing power and off-the-line acceleration" (https://jalopnik.com/2023-bmw-330i-3...iew-1849741804) 1/4 mile under 13 seconds and 0 under 4.5 secs - The car really needs this. |

… the hybrid setup seamlessly engages the start/stop system. I usually have a universal hate for these types of systems as they’re often annoying and rough when they engage. But I have to say, the M340i had one of the smoothest stop-start systems I’ve ever encountered. I never actually tried to deactivate it, which is a first for me. Hopefully holds true for the M240. |

I’m sure the system isn’t bad but the constant spinning up and down of the engine would at least make me think I’m giving it unnecessary wear
Especially in an age where BMW gets to claim more efficiency with cars that have these systems, and also if they do have an adverse affects, just means more service visits for them Businesses are out to make money but it would be nice to think the consumer was front and center. Anyone know if audi or Mercedes does this mild hybrid stuff (or make ASS hard to access)? |

My guess is they are doing it for emissions and/or smoother operation of the auto start/stop.
The minute gas mileage benefit is likely offset by the added weight - 50 pounds or so? Sure, 11 hp and a little bit more torque is nice but I don't think it will make a noticeable difference to the average driver on a car that already has almost 400 hp. If mine comes with it I likely will keep the car in Sport Custom mode for city/interstate driving anyway - I hate the auto start/stop. On my Ridgeline, I never got in the habit of pushing in the button so I found a trick with the truck bed power outlet that turns it off - and keeps it off. Some bright guy/gal or aftermarket company may come up with a trick for the M240i too. |

So I’ve just ordered a UK car, UK site has no mention of this. I don’t care about the Auto start stop button tbh but are there any other negatives to this? Feels weird having a hybrid when I wanted a pure B58 6 cylinder before everything goes hybrid/electric
Edit: my quote from my dealer says it’s just the B58 but I don’t have a chassis number to track yet. My car has a build slot for December. Do we know when MY24 is slated for production to start? Does it have annoying things like brake regeneration? |

I made my deposit in early July on what I thought was a 23MY. When I got my VIN a couple of weeks later, it showed that it is a 24MY. It just finished the assembly process yesterday and I expect that mine will be one of the first 24s to be shipped - I hope to get it in a few weeks.
Yes, I am almost certain that it will have this. Regarding the 48V hybrid, I guess we won't know until those of us that are getting the first units will be able to confirm or deny that it is actually on the car. Sometimes too, things change from early production models to later production models. |
