Oil Cooler needed for a Daily Driver?
I picked up a nice 07' 335i Project car. I've done all the standard bolt on mods to is (downpipes, DCI, MHD Stage 2, etc...).
This is just a daily driver...not a track car. The oil temp seems to stay around 210-220 if I'm paying around hard...getting on the gas. For a daily driver that doesn't see any track time.....is an aftermarket oil cooler worth the money? How much will it reduce oil temps? Any other info would be great!

My car without sport cooler on ethanol with stock turbos will only be good for 2-3 consecutive pulls before oil temps are over 250-260 and im not comfortable doing more without cool down.
Mine will get an oem retrofit at some point, but i doubt ill do more than add a slightly lower thermostat to it. For me its not a need, but a want. So be honest with what you want to do with it.

As far as adding a cooler.....is doing the OEM retrofit better than an aftermarket cooler? I'm assuming that even with an aftermarket cooler, you will need some OEM parts changed out in order to have a place to tap into the oil system for the cooler lines?

No matter what you need a sport cooler oil filter housing. Past that you can use any aftermarket kit or just get a complete stock one.
If you're questioning your needs of one at all, then im sure a stock one will do fine and be much cheaper.

And those of us running the oem oil cooler donīt forget to power wash it from time to time, it really helps (to get rid off all that accumulated junk in it)... you just remove the wheel, get that small plastic finned cover off and wash it properly... lots of dead bugs and leaves will flow out from the front opening :-)

I have a FBO 07' 335i w/out the oil cooler. I have had it for 10 years as a DD only. In the summer, oil temps might reach 235-40 at best. Winter 220-25 seem to be about the high. I run my car on 5w-40 year round.
Would it be nice to do an OEM retrofit with an after mkt oil cooler? Yes, but when considering it's gonna cost $600.00 or so for new parts, I can think of other things I want to buy first. |

The oil does heat up pretty quickly when I do that. 250 or so. I don't do more that 3-4 at a time. I just in a sense drag it for 1/4 to 3/8 of a mile so I can get my log. |
