JB3 Removal
I know this is a super outdated device but the previous owner had it on my car and I can't find anything about removing it. I was originally going to swap in the new JB4 G5 I've had for a few months but decided I will just go MHD and get a custom tune done. Does anyone have any info on removing the jb3 or remember how they did it? Would really appreciate it.
Side note the G5 BMS sent me is a square enclosure but all the pictures I see the enclosure is a rectangle any reason for that? |

Its pretty straight forward, there is a jumper harness that goes between the main and ECM connections. The JB3 has two sets one for the longer connector and one for the shorter. You will just end up having to press the pins out. I imagine there is a DIY here

is it a pin-out version? if so, it's a lot more involved

JB3 is pretty old, is it pin out or PNP? For $175 you can upgrade it to the latest JB4 system and then run their free MHD flash maps to go with it. You'll save a ton over having to do custom tuning and wind up with a lot more features and safety to boot.

I have the upgraded G5 already. I was originally going to swap that in and then use the BEF with MHD. I think I'm just going to go MHD now so I can utilize the logging and gauges MHD has instead of having to get the BMS Bluetooth module and use their gauges, as well as using MHD to get rid of the catless CEL instead of the plug in DP fix. I would like to have the jb4 in for the additional features but what to keep it as streamlined as possible so if you have any suggestions that would be great.

When you load the back end flash map via MHD you can turn off any light you want. It's a $79 license only vs. having to buy the maps from MHD, the logging from MHD, pay for a custom tuner, etc, if going flash tuner.
JB4 bluetooth is $175 for module and app if you don't have it. You could find a used one or use a $35 data cable and free laptop software if money is tight. |
