Bosch plugs on MHD Stage 2?
So I replaced my Spark plugs and coils about 7k miles ago, and I知 currently running no tune. I知 going MHD Stage 2 in the next month and I知 pretty much wondering 2 things.
1. Do I need to upgrade my Spark Plugs? Currently I知 running Bosch OE plugs (linked below). Should I go with NGK 1 step colder or 2 step colder? Or am I fine with the current plugs? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...lug-0242140507 2. If I知 good with running the Bosch OE plugs, should I replace my plugs and coils even though their only 7k miles old, or can I go stage 2 another 15k miles on these? |

bosch should be fine, i ran mine on E85 tunes up to 21 psi and had no misfires, it cant hurt though to go to 1 step colder. Run them until you run into timing pulls or misfires.

My Bosch plugs worked fine on S2+ V8 map for about a month or so but anytime I put it on the V9 beta it would misfire. Started to misfire on V8 Friday so i finally put my 2 step colder plugs in and no problem on either map. Should note that my Bosch plugs had 30k on them.
If you're running pump gas I wouldn't worry much

Better/hotter spark makes it more efficient. I got 2 step colder because I'm FBO inlets and plan to run E85. If you're not going to run E85 I don't think there's much benefit for you, maybe 1 step colder depending on mods

I changed plugs and replaced coils with Eldor ones before tuning. Currently on stage 1 no misfires, Id replace plugs every 8k as recommended by my mechanic, but some people have much longer intervals |

I run stock Bosch plugs on all my tunes, including very aggressive 93 and e50 custom files. No issues.

I use 1 step colder plugs gapped at .022 & Eldor coils; I don't have any issues either. I think w/ out too much question, one should definitely use 2 steps colder plugs gapped at .018 & have Eldor Coils, if you go over 500hp. I think this particularly hold true, if you are using upgraded turbos, running E85 on a stage 2 LPFP. My interpretation is that if you are running stock turbos on an OEM LPFP pump you can go either way up to 500hp. It's just a matter of preference. There is a thought process that says you should use one step colder for 100+ HP over stock & 2 steps colder for 200+ HP over stock. |

I still run Bosch OE, 2+ Meth. Perhaps the methanol helps.
We have a lot of guys who still run them on basic FBO cars. It's really on these hot tunes (where people are arguably pushing limits) that the stock plugs don't work as good and misfires occur. I sometimes question the boost some guys run, I remember a time when 14 PSI was a lot in this platform. Now people are talking about 25 PSI+ (in other threads). |
