I’m going manual as well, but a couple of the reviews had me questioning that. Why can’t BMW do anything about the “rubbery shifter?” A common complaint. Read about how Honda has paid a lot of attention or this with good results. If it’s as good as my F82’s I will have no issue with it. Takes about 10k miles break in. And steering feel? An endless complaint.

Lol I'm assuming that's sarcasm? Cause I read it and it was a generally glowing review haha

Was about to ask if we read the same article?

It starts with "On first impressions, it’s a cracker...,"

evo magazine

BMW M2 2023 review
"The M2 is reborn as a short-wheelbase, rear-drive-only, compact version of the M3/M4. On first impressions, it’s a cracker"

"Manual or auto? The six-speed manual shift is fine rather than fantastic. Compared with the short-throw shift in Toyota’s GR86 or even Ford’s Tremec-equipped Mustang (not to mention the benchmark H-pattern in the latest Civic Type R), it’s a slower, wider-gated, more knuckly-feeling set-up. But then, it has a heck of a lot more torque to deal with than those cars (Mustang excepted), and it’s still perfectly enjoyable to use."

Ouff... watched 3 videos and its definitly a mixed bag. Nothing too surprizing basically all the faults are due to the fact that it really is a baby M4 now. More weight, more power, more traction...

just not the glowing reviews I was expecting.

Tuning? Don't they use the same de-tuned S58 in the base X3M? Maybe they have the tuning spot on for the auto but could do better on the manual?

I will still take the manual and keep my scrotum warm.

It seems some of the lack of playful they miss can be addressed with HAS and forged wheels.

This page blew up!

I’m disappointed in TH’s review of the G87 because they really didn’t get too much into anything specific. More and more these guys try to be funny rather than informative. I usually like their sense of humor but they spent too much time trying to be funny and not enough time actually providing a solid review of this car.

I’m not expecting every journalist to kiss BMW’s ass over this car but when Thomas is literally saying that too much grip is a con, gimme a fuccin break. It’s not as “playful” as his OG M2 but he couldn’t even make his point with a straight face because he knows how asinine that sounded.

I agree. We know a little more about what others here are looking for, and we collectively know that forged wheels and HAS can greatly effect the drive of this car, but these reviewers can't necessarily mention the potential of this car with minor upgrades, they have to judge it as it is. Unfortunately bmw did shaft us on a few things in order to keep the price down while giving us the s58.

Just curious if you've seen something outside of their perspective.
Just the ‘meh’ tone so far of the early reviews, which seemed to be focused on the manual. Stark contrast to the F87 M2C reviews.

I REALLY want to love this car, so I was hoping for more raves. Instead, it’s been “it’s not as ugly in person,” and “the manual is OK”

I have an F87 M2C w a manual. Was hoping for clear justification/motivation to order a G87 Manual. Just not feeling it so far.

I will say that some of the magazine reviews are more positive than the YouTubers so that’s something.

In the US... but if you are in the UK if I heard the Car video correctly, they get the carbon roof and Harmon Kardon in "standard kit?"

Well, I have pretty much watched everyone’s review, but Throttle House. So, I went over to watch it and my observation so far other than what has previously been mentioned, is that it looks great in TR or at least it does on my 65” LED TV via the latest Apple 4K TV.

Right or Wrong, I do watch their reviews, and I do want to know what they think. They loved the M2C and M2CS, as did many of the others, so it’s hard for me to say they were so right about that and so wrong about this.

Exactly. My OG F87 does exactly the same thing if I'm too stupid to downshift.
