JGMods bumpers primed?

Are the mtech bumpers from JG mods already primed? My body shop guy asked and I think they are but not sure. Any issues to those who have had the bumpers painted (not purchased painted from JG Mods)?

Yes they are primed. I recently bought one and had it painted by a body shop that the dealership recommended to me. The primer started peeling after about 4 weeks and I took it back to them for a replacement after taking the opinion of 3 well known body shops in the area and they all said that it's the primer that's the issue and not a case of a bad paint job. Each of them told me that they would have to sand down the whole thing, re prime it and re paint it. Took it back to JGMods and Had a tough time getting them to agree that hey it's them whom I have to deal with and not their supplier. They were wanting me to basically be at the mercy of their supplier and I was like I bought it from you so it's not my problem how you deal with your supplier as I know you and you gotta take care of me for this defective bumper that you have sold me. Eventually after almost a month of waiting as apparently their supplier was closed and then a lot of back and forth they finally agreed that yes I am right in what I am saying and they will replace it for me. Now I am waiting for it to come in stock, or at least that is what I have been told that the MTech for a E90 LCI is not in stock and they will be gettin some in July. This has been going on since April so hopefully my pain will end in July.

I have heard great things about them which is what prompted me to buy a bumper from them and I am thinking it was just that one bumper that was defective out of the many that they sell. That wasn't even my problem. It was about how they tried to leave me at the mercy of their supplier and tried to wash their hands off of this that pissed me off.

Anyway Good luck and just make sure you have all your bases covered before you fork out the money.

They do come with a primer, however...

I do believe that they recommend if you purchase it without a paint option that you sand down the primer and apply your own primer and colour coat to the bumper. (What I was told when I was injuring about M3 Style Front Bumper purchase weighing out my options).

I bought my front bumper from JGmods and also had my primer peel off within 2-3 weeks.
Jgmod's response was.. you should have sanded off our primer and put on new primer.

Not really sure what the point of selling a primed bumper is :/ just adds more prep work for your paint shop. If you're planning on buying a bumper from them, I would make sure to let your shop know that they have to reprime the bumper so they can give you a better time & cost estimate.

This is good information! Unfortunate some had to find out the hard way but its better for the community for sure. JG Mods should just put this on their page.

They took down the "Primed and ready to paint!" and replaced it with "Disclaimer: We are not liable for product misuse, improper installation, or third party paint services." in a very small font lol.

My shop was nice enough to only charge half of the total repaint cost
and JGmods finally decided to cover half of that half after I talked to the owner.

Technically since it is a bumper flaw/primer flaw that came from JGMods and not a paint job issue, they should have covered the entire cost. It is like if you buy a Sony TV from Best Buy and something goes wrong with it in the first few months then you go to Best Buy and have them take care of it right away. You shouldn't/wouldn't hear them say that "oh go to Sony for that or we will talk to Sony and see what we can do".

Oh well, hopefully from the experiences that a few of us have had, other buyers on this forum will be more careful and get the facts cleared out with vendors before buying anything.

Good luck to all.

Its funny that they still put it as Product Misuse, improper installation or third party paint services. How does primer not sticking to the bumper relate to any of that? LOL!

They come raw and standard prep work is necessary. It isn't rocket science and body shops should be more than capable to do so.

They don't come raw, they are primed.

When I asked them why they come primed if we're supposed to sand and reprise them, they replied "The primer is how the bumper comes. We don't have an option to tell the factory to not do something."

All bumpers come primed. Even from the dealer or any where you buy them from! Most parts for that matter that are plastic/CF - example all spoilers, lips, etc.

The paint guy asked me if they were primed. I said yes. Now should I tell him the primer is junk and to sand it off and re-prime? Confused as the best course of action.

No reputable body shop would lay paint on top of the primer that comes on a bumper. Its gotta be sanded. Adhesion promoter applied then a quality primer/sealer. Then base/clear. Unless you like the paint fallin off.

I agree... There are steps to paint things. It happened to my aero lip. I put painters tape on it and when I removed the painters tape. It removed the paint and primer off. It wasn't the product fault. It was the body shop fault for taking short cuts.

The bumper is half the cost of OEM. If you want OEM fit and finish then spend the money and pay OEM prices.

Lets do the math. I haven't looked into bumper prices lately but my math should be pretty close.

OEM bumper $800 + paint $450= $1250
Aftermarket bumper $400 + paint $450= $950

So you guys took the risk and tried to save a few hundred. Then get upset that you didn't save any money.

FYI- if you get any bumper OEM or aftermarket, new or used. Always, have them do all the steps. Google the steps on how to paint.

On the BB and Sony tv comment. If you had an outside installer hooked up your TV and it didn't work. It's not Sony or BB... It's the installer not knowing how to hook up the TV. Just like the body shop not knowing how to paint.

your math is wrong 400 + 450 = 850 and a 400 dollar savings is quite a lot.
