Dry Sump Oiling

How many people would be interested in a dry sump oil scavenge system? I put a quick question into Bill Dailey about making me one he isn't interested in a one off. Would this be something the single turbo guys would be interested in? He does have a pan for the S52 block I'm looking to see if it can be adapted. I'll keep working away at it just wanted to get a feeling for demand. I have no idea on price point but it would likely be several thousand.

Just IMO but only the track rats are really going to be interested in that. Don't get me wrong a dry sump would be sweet, but N54s generally do OK in street conditions. I've heard of starvation on heavily tracked cars, but there are VERY few people making big power who track the hell out of their N54s. The people with big singles or pushing north of X WHP are almost exclusively doing roll racing and trips to the drag strip.

I spend a lot of time tracking (road course) my 1M and may be interested.

I recently replaced the connecting rod bearings due to wear as revealed by Blackstone oil analyses. I figure that it was from track use before I baffled the oil pan and stepped up to top drawer motor oil (Motul 300V).

There is always this as a go between.

A true dry sump retrofit system is very very pricey (the one for the E9x M3 is $7,200 from Turner).

Yes, it's a good piece. I have the prototype on which it was based.

Do you have any pictures of the bearings?

Are you 100% they needed replaced then? When I worked for a dealership years ago, the rule was to bag all replaced parts for the owner unless told to throw them away.

They probably did need replacement, the question is were they replaced? I agree with you, I've been a tech for 14 years, I've seen some techs that I just want to kill them, they pocket the money for them and the shop and don't do the job if they think they can get away with it. This is from mom n pops shops and dealerships. Please for the guys that don't do their own work always ask for the old parts back, and also be careful because those bad techs can also give you someone else's old parts.

Yes, I am certain they needed to be replaced and that they were replaced.

It was done by RRT Racing (formerly Road Racing Technologies) in Dulles, VA.

Edit: Yep '_ _ _' minus the spaces is what is there. I still don't know what some people turn off to disable tags.

I want a dry sump! Don't even care if I "need" one. This car has eaten up so much money up to this point, what's another couple grand for baller grade stuff?

Use the same location tony did for his hpfp upgrade but for a belt driven vac pump. I'm sure if there's any money in it, he'll sell you a belt if you run the same or close enough sized pulley.

Came in at 9am today...planning on heading out about 1am. BUT, big projects, big money...

Moved...

So yeah that might work if I didn't want to keep the option for his hpfp open. It is a slick kit. Much simpler then the doubler gears I wanted to bolt into the stock location and run two pumps that way and hope the chain holds up.

I was thinking of eliminating the stock power steering and driving it from that side with a power steering pump driven off the back of the sump pump. Dailey makes them. I think he said around 2700 for what I was asking about. I needed to get back to him with more numbers and never got around to it as I'm the only one until now really interested in it. The pan would just be a sheet metal with baffles/scrapers as we can't lower the motor without redesigning most of the chassis/drivetrain anyway. I wanted to pair it with a fabbed or plugged stock valve cover to eliminate the stock pcv and run oil squirters for the valve train. That was before PTF's port injection but I still think the value is there to get the crankcase under vacuum.

PWR hungry was looking at a valve cover at one point as well. But I think he stayed stock for the time being.

I kind of want to get a mechanical port injection system going just for the bling factor. If I had an old hot rod I'm pretty sure I would put more effort into it. That 33 the guy in the M3 forum is building with the S65 will be sweet. There is a 33 in or around calgary with an older BMW V12 in it. Sounds mean.
