Help on choosing suspension!

Hey guys, I just need your opinion, specially if you have/had these setup. I am looking at getting KONI Adjustable Struts + H&R Sport Springs versus BC Racing BR Coilovers.

I am not really planning to slam my E90 LCI and I just wanna eliminate the fender gap. What really is also important to me is the RIDE QUALITY. I had Megan Racing coils before on my Camry and hated the ride quality as I can feel the roughness of the road even on the softest setting.

I've read good reviews about KONIs + H&R Sport Springs but I am now looking at BCs. I am not expecting it to be exactly like my stock M Sport suspension but hopefully I wanna get the closest ride quality with stock. Thank you!

There's a great sticky in the Technical Forum/Suspension with lots of feedback on the various suspensions. Many good, qualified opinions on what works best for different uses & expectations.

After much research, I just ordered the ST Coilovers and will be installing soon. Fewer features than the BC, but perhaps a more proven product (opinions will certainly vary).

Good luck with your search.

I ran ST Coils (made by KW) on my E90 LCI and they're super comfy. I highly recommend them and they're under $900. I recommend coilovers over springs and shocks so you can adjust them exactly the way you want them. If you're not going to track, get the ST Coils.

If you plan on tracking your car then I recommend Ohlins & Swift springs ($2500+).

Thanks bro! I'll definitely look at them. I have a friend who recommended that too so with you also saying that they are comfy, that might change my mind. Are they adjustable?

If your budget is $1300 do NOT get the ST Coilovers. I have them and they were nice for the sub $800 price I paid but the car handles terribly. The ONLY good that comes of them is the fact that they're height adjustable to allow slamming the car and they're SUPER comfortable while driving on the street or bumpy/uneven roads..

What do u mean by the car handles terribly? isn't it suppose to make your handling better coz you are now lower to the ground? confused here.

Just because a vehicle's center of gravity has been lowered it doesn't necessarily make it handle better.
You have dampening/oscillation characteristics that can be affected the lower you go. Having coilovers with a variable preload adjustment helps with this but not entirely.

LOL and you obviously cannot tell the difference between various suspension setups & attaining true handling feel.

Yes I am one of those people who cut my springs to get better handling and lower center of gravity, my car handles fine on the track no problem.

If you slam the car, and put the coilovers below their optimal adjustment range, then yes the car will handle like crap.

they handle fine.. for street driving... they are soft but my GF doesnt seem to mind... she does the mind the rubbing but im still trying convince her its ok lol

Ive rode on all types of coilovers... ohlins, JRZ, double adj koni.. etc

THESE ARE FINE... to say these handle horribly is an exaggeration.

Thanks bro! not really into the stance/slam game. I just want a good looking drop. and what really matters to me is the ride comfort coz I carry my wife and 2 kids with me and I don't them to deal with rough ride as well.

i'm in the same boat, deliberated on BC, ST or S1s. ended up going with STs since rust isn't an issue in CA, and KW was offering the rebate. the ride is a bit stiffer than the OEM sport suspension, but still very comfortable on streets.

definitely not the best option if you plan on tracking, but for a value play, it's tough to beat.

Yeah, im expecting it to be a bit stiffer than OEM sport suspension. But overall, if OEM Sport Suspension is 10, how will you rate ST's ride comfort?

i love my st's lol my last post came off a bit rude but that wasn't my intention it was just the first time i heard say that sts were so bad, it gets low enough for me and does great on canyon runs (i don't go often or anything though) and great for daily driving, it's a bit harsher than stock but that's why i think it's the compromise between performance and comfort
