LED 1156 "error free" Rear Turn Signal Bulbs - not so error free
Hello e90post gurus!
So I just got these in the mail today: http://store.ijdmtoy.com/1156-7506-S...s-p/20-003.htm I'm using these to replace standard PY21W amber rear turn signal bulbs on my 2009 e92. The lights came with an external resistor "bar" which is supposed to trick the Canbus computer on the car to think there's a regular incandescent bulb in there. Well, it kind of works. When I start the car, I get the dreaded "bulb out" error. Then, when I engage the turn signal on either side, it does a hyper-flash (3 super fast flashes) then slows to regular. When I engage the turn signals on both sides (one then the other), after the initial hyper-flash, the error goes away on the dash and everything runs normally. Unfortunately, this only lasts until I turn off the car. The next time I turn on the car, I go through the same issues again. I checked all the connections and everything is solid. I re-installed the old bulbs and the error goes away. Re-install the LEDs and the problem comes back. Any thoughts? Thanks! |

As far as I know there are still no error free rear turn signals, they all require coding. That's why we don't sell them yet even though we have a bright solution.
That is one of the unfortunate things about buying from non vendors and that is they are typically incorrect in their listing and even go as far as to blatantly false advertise. Although there are still some vendors on here that pull the same tactics but that's for a different day. |

Thanks Jeff & drilla.
Yea, these bulbs weren't cheap and I really like the look when they are working... So I really want to try everything to get them working before I resort to spending even more money to get someone to code the error out (not sure if I can code only the turn signals to be ignored and not the rest of the brake lights?) Here's something I noticed playing around with it today: the external resistor bars stay cold when I first turn on the car and get the error. But once I turn on the signal (even once) the error goes away and the resistor bar gets hot. So.. I'm thinking the power isn't even hitting the resistor or the resistor isn't generating enough resistance feed back during the initial check sequence and is causing the car to error out? Here are some pics I took of the error I'm getting and a sort description of when I see the error: When the car first starts up: When I activate the RIGHT turn signal: it hyper flashes 3 times fast, then slows to normal and this error (CC-ID 125) goes away and I get this error: When I activate the LEFT turn signal it hyper flashes 3 times fast, then slows to normal and this error (CC-ID 116) then everything is ok: When I turn off the car (regardless if I lock it, don't lock it, leave it overnight) I start from the top again. Is there some sort of sequence or electrical trick I can use to get this to work? Thanks! -RT |
