JB2H/91 octane vbox times

Hey guys,

Decided to do a few runs in what I think represents a good daily driver trim. Mods right now are JB2H, UR catless downpipes, factory 2nd cats, factory catback, drop in filter. Car also has light weight rims and 245/45/17 Nitto 555Rs (around 10k miles on them now). Gas tonight was Shell 91. DA was around -600'.

I really wasn't sure what to expect performance wise with the stock 2nd cats/catback, because it visually looks restrictive.

To my surprise, performance is only off ~.1/1mph, or less. I really love this setup now, the exhaust is so quiet all you can hear are the turbos spooling like a banshee. Very cool.

Attached is an average run, and the glory run. Of around 6 runs 5 were in the 12.4@113 range, with one glory run of 12.3@115.

With the stock battery and 1/2 tank of gas, traction was predictably improved off the line, but still an issue.

That would be the ideal scenario. I've still got a JB1 with your name on it!

May need to upgrade since I've seen the results.

Where did you do these runs today? Has it started raining yet? I've been stuck in the house trying to fix a bathtub faucet leak today *sigh*.... Can't get the brass bonnet off the dang faucet. Too much calcification.

I had that problem once... ended up breaking the valve and had to go through tile to fix it. Wasn't fun.

The runs were done on a long private road.

Yeah hoping to get some Monday. I'm really hoping for ~340rw on 91 octane, but we'll see. I think you need to get some DP.

It's around here somewhere, but was on 96 octane. 377rw on the R and 355rw on the JB2H, I think.

Hey Terry,
I haven't been following much lately.
Maybe you can quickly explain to me what the "H" is ?
Can i add it to my jbs2 ? I use 94 octane all the time here in Montreal... If that makes a difference.
Thankx

You can! We're still testing now but drop me an email if you'd like to give it a shot. Here is some more info on it:

This is much better than running the R switch all the time. Be sure you have at least 96/97 octane if you're going to try both.

Now if they had a drag strip with timing lights here, we would both be there proving our times with actual time slips. With 91 octane, and otherwise stock, I am running about 110mph. So down pipes really seem like a bonafide performance enhancer. Someone needs to run a sniffer test at a smog station to see how a car with just the secondary cats measures. I believe the main reason for the primary cats are for fast light off after starting cold.

Yeah so I'm picking up 3-4mph with the downpipes, hot pill, and probably ~60# less weight. Not bad at all. We need to throw a hot pill in your setup for cold weather testing on 91.

Hopefully one of the downpipe makers can do some smog testing for us. I think they would fail a cold start test, but the normal test when you arrive with a hot engine should be close. Not that it matters here in CA as you don't need to do smog tests until the car is 4-5 years old.

Are downpipes easily spotted by the dealer technician, say, if you take your car in for an oil change or something?

H=HOT, after the addition of the HOT pill to the JBS2.

So there are now:
JBS1
JBS2
JBS2H
JBS2R
JBS2RH

I'm not sure if the HOT pill works with JBS1... yet... might be a good add-on for it. I might have named it the + pill... so that we have:

JBS1
JBS2
JBS2+
JBS2R
JBS2R+

JBS2H is very nice. My butt dyno is not very sensitive anymore and I noticed the difference right off the bat. 1st and 2nd gear are a lot more interesting now
