Full DIY for water pump+tstat for xdrive

I've searched everywhere and gotten responses ranging from it's the same as non-xi except you need to remove the radiator to you should drop the subframe (I have not the slightly clue as to how I would do that). Does anyone have a diy for xi cars?

Def don't need to drop the subframe. I removed the radiator since it was so easy but I can't remember if its necessary. Be prepared to spend some time getting the clamps on and off. Was a 4 hour job for me on ramps.

Clamps

Is there anything special about the clamps? I though they were just the normal screw type.

Just did this service a few weeks ago. I was initially confused by the hose clamps too, the ones that dont have a screw on them are NOT supposed to come off. Look at the water pump from the other side and you should see the correct clamps to remove.

The DIYs for the non-xi's don't help much. Also, take off the silver bracing plate as well as the passenger front tire. You can access the hose clamps and stuff through where the tire was.

Keep changing your point of view while looking at it. It will all make sense once your done removing it lol.

Also, I got a bendy extension thing that has a nut driver on the end, helped to reach the hose clamps.

Also, you don't have to drop the subframe or take out the radiator. Hope you have skinny arms, good luck.

Its a PITA, but I didn't have to remove anything. I did find that it was easier to access some of the clamps from the passenger side wheel well so I removed that wheel.

I did mine last weekend. Definitely do not need to lower the subframe although I imagine it probably makes it much easier.

I'm about to do mine in this weekend... does the pump come out the same way as the non-xi? (Like in the BavAuto youtube vid?) I figure there some maneuvering/rotating of the pump to get it out but I also read that there's an extra beam in the way on the xi?

Our subframe is quite a bit different than the rwd cars. The connections to the parts are obviously the same but the order of operations to get them in and out is different. It should be pretty obvious what I mean once you get a look at it.

I finished last night. It took me about 6 hours, taking my time.

Couple of notes:

- I didn't have to drop the subframe. I was able to access all the hoses and bolt but it was a very tight fit.
- I was not able to drop the sway bar but I did loose the bolts to the bracket.
-Tstat comes out first then WP. WP installed then Tstat.
-I had a hell of a time with bolting the Tstat to the WP. The rear top hose was causing an alignment issue. I loosen it and it lined up properly.

Otherwise, its doable and not all that difficult. Just very very tedious.
