How long does it take to get production number?

I did a pre-reservation for ED on July 7th. My ED pick up date is Jan 26th. Can any one advise me approximately when does BMW issue production number? Today is Dec10th? Is it like 30 days before car is built?

Thanks for your help

It varies, though your CA should have it by now, I would call them.

I was told the allocation was released at the end of the month, 3 months prior to production. So, for my March 2008 ED, I am expecting a production number and confirmed date at the end of December.

+1 definitely should be out by now. It should have been out at the end of Nov., or begin of this month.

Crap, I am being told that ED dept didn't get my pre-reservation. My SA says she sent it on 7/7/7. I am wondering, if she can still push it through for a Jan 26 ED. Do you think it is possible still or I am f**ed?

If your CA is competent Im sure you can get it done. Otherwise they need at least 6 weeks to get everything done correctly.

I got the production number on Dec 13th, still no VIN number allocated. The ED date is 1/28/08. When would the VIN be assigned, anybody any idea?

I placed an order on 12/15 and my CA called me on 12/21 with a VIN and production number. I called the BMW 800 number and was told that my car has an expected completion date of 1/8.

Usually shortly before it actually enters production. Work backwards from your Munich pick-up date of 1/28/08. Cars are now completed about 1-2 weeks before pick-up so it should be completed on 1/21/08. It means it'll go into production about the 16th.

Figure your VIN to be available around the 14th, if not earlier.

OP was asking about Prod # originally, but he's moved on to the ever popular "When do I get my VIN" question now...
