Hi All,
I have a 2007 E90 328ix
Hoping you can help out. About a month ago, when we had torrential rain, the horn started blowing non stop while I was driving with the wipers on. I tried everything, restarted the car and the horn was still blowing... as I'm driving to the mechanic I'm noticing that if I change the speed on the wipers the horn would stop blowing intermittently... but then eventually come on again. When I arrived, I took the key out horn stopped but then wipers kept going. Dealer wanted to charge me 2 grand so I had the car towed to my mechanic. But by the time it got to him, the rain stopped and they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. Fast forward to yesterday... torrential downpour on the way home because of Hurricane Arthur, rain coming down in sheets on the beltway and then my horn just starts blowing. Couldn't get it to stop - so humiliating because people are now trying to get out of my way thinking I'm nuts! Horn cuts on and off when I try to adjust wiper speeds again - wiper motor making weird noises when horn stops and starts. Finally made it home, convinced the car is possessed when it rains hard. I know that water is getting in somehow and somewhere causing a current between the wires. I would love to hear your suggestions on where to look first. I did open the fuse box in the glove compartment when I arrived home... but didn't know what to do after that. Also - it's dry out today and the car is acting normal again. But I know this will happen again when it gets wet. Suggestions much, much appreciated!!!!!

Ok, I know it does sound kinda funny... but seriously. I love my car and I would like to be able to drive it in the rain. I know this can't be huge repair. I bet it's something really simple. Anybody?

My friend had the same problem on his 2003 325. Never fixed it bc was so expensive. He would take the fuse out for the horn

Thanks evoix - I was thinking that might be the best and most affordable solution. I don't really use my horn much anyway. To remove the fuse for the horn, do I just take it out of the fuse box that's in the back of the glove compartment? And I think to pass inspection, they test the horn, so I can just put the fuse back in for that, right? Anything I should know about removing fuses? I've never done that before. Can I just pull it out? Thanks!!

I would check at your steering wheel and wiper stalk first. Maybe there is some sort of metallic dust or some cleaner you used that when humid makes electrical contact within. Also did you ever have your airbag or steering wheel replaced for anything? A wire could be crushed/ cut an when humid is making contact with the frame of the steering column. The horn works off of power and ground. The power is always to the horn and its waiting for the ground at the steering wheel when you press it. So if you can't figure out the fault,you can at least unplug the horn connectors under the hood/bumper area. Someone else suggested the fuse but I'm not sure if that also has a couple more items on that fuse you might lose like radio or some lights.

When the malfunction manifest, open all the fuse and junction boxes and see if they are wet. Look for water around the horn assembly itself. I have no time now, but I'll look at the Bentley book for where the horn junction box is located. From guessing I'd say driver side junction box under the A driver side pillar.
