Bye bye, value.
Apparently our cars have taken a big nose dive in the past year as far as value goes. I suspect its due to the number coming of age where CBU sets in and people ditch the vehicle.
Spent the last two days shopping for a new ride. Carmax offered me 21k, while a chevy dealer offered me 25. Both said the the car was worth around 20 at auction based on recent sales, and the value has plummeted. 2011 M-sport with everything but active cruise. 43k, 05/2011 build. Guess I have to hold on to it for a while now, since i'm way upside down on the thing. Picked it up last september for 37k. Ouch.

I've been offered $16k (lol), $20k and $24k trade in. I have 75k miles and an accident on my car.

I've been in the game before with higher priced rides, mostly German. If the car is worth more than 50% of its list price after 4 years, its a great resale value.
Some German cars go down to about 50% and then stay there for a while. It often depends on the marketplace and how well it holds up. Changing cars is always a losing proposition. Money wise, better to hold on to it for a while. I usually will change cars when they become unreliable or when my needs change and I can afford it. PL |

Your car is out of warranty that's why you saw a drop in the offer at CarMax. We tend to hit them a little bit on trade in once the cars are out of warranty. Plus the demand for the 335d isn't as high as the n54/5

I bought my 2011 with 47K on it for less than 27000 and that was almost a year ago now. Was gunna get the extended warranty but the dealer said that they would not cover CBU under the warranty so I figured what was the point in shelling out 3k then.
I also came close to buying a 335d m sport, also 2011 that had a few extra bells and whistles on it for around 28000 but chose not to go for that car for a few different reasons. |

There are like three basic values: Trade-in, Retail, and Private-party. If you wanted, you probably could add an auction value, but I dont think you can find that on Kelly Bluebook. But keep this in mind when you compare the values people mention above.
I would expect the used 335d values to be lower than other BMWs because of the difficulty in finding reasonably priced mechanics who are experienced with this engine as it is significantly different from 98% of other BMW models out in the pool of used BMWs. So even without the CBU problem, this is not a practical car for economical repair, and prices will reflect that. Now how much lower does the price go because of CBU? I dont know, there are professional appraisers out there who might have formulae for apportioning the factors which go into a car's value and could estimate how much the CBU problem contributes to the lower resale value. Would be nice to hear from one of them.
