Smile Montego Blue e92 w/ Matte Black Window-Trim: Pre-fitting

I had an extra roll of Matte black vinyl which i ordered awhile ago off ebay. So today i decided to "test" fit the vinyl and see how it would look after i get it "professionally" done. Took me about 30minutes to roughly lay the vinyl. All i have to say is if your planning on doing this mod by yourself, you better be a Magician or God of working with vinyl for it to look good up close.

I had done countless Photoshops of Blacked out window trim on my car, but i wanted to make sure this matte vinyl would look good on montego before i shell out some $$$ to get it done by my local paint/body shop.

Here are a few quick pics i took after i was done. I only did the Drivers side trim because it was only a test fitment/look.

Also, another thing i noticed after laying the black vinyl on is that for some reason your eyes percieve the car to be lower to the ground and having the blacked out window trim really "SITS" the car down. Everything flows ALOT better IMO. Planning on going to my shop next Monday, so i will have finished pictures by then.

Any plans for black rims? They really stand out with everything blacked out.

Trying to pick out a set sooner than later. Cant really decide on what i want yet though. Either Hyperblacks/Gunmetal/Matte Black finishes. Something Dark to compliment and flow with everything else.

Black trim looks fantastic in the pictures. If you could keep everyone at that distance, there would be no reason to pay someone to do it! Nice job- car looks great, and I too have noticed that the black trim 'sits' the car down a bit. I thought I was just weird, but apparently we both are.

IMHO, you should keep the OEM rims and just upgrade tires for traction. So many e92s switching rims, I really like the stocks myself. Just mho though!

yeah Tires are the issue. Might just get some cheaper set of tires for now. I mean, any tire is going to be better/more traction than the RFT's. Probably just throw some 235's up front and 265's in the rear to help with my traction issues until i decide on some rims later on.

Wow! Looks great (from a distance ;-). Did you do the grille also?
Anyone have any pics of Montego Blue E90 Sedan with black window trim?

I had my local paint pro do it for me Its the oem chrome grille prepped and painted glossy black. Its been on there for about 5 months and not 1 single chip or color fade. Im very surprised it hasnt. He does excellent work IMO.

However, i might sell my Glossy grille and buy a Matte black one from one of the forum vendors. I think it will flow better with matte grille and matte window trim together.

for the window trim or the grille?? I would like to do glossy trim, but the glossy black vinyl looks really fake and just doesnt work. Of course OEM Shadowline Trim would be the best, but im not shelling out $800+ for window trim .

Maybe one day a Sponsor/Vendor will come out with an affordable replacement trim for us e92's. Until then, there are just not too many options out there other than custom work.

I have my precut vinyl that Brandon did but I'm still looking for a shop that can install it. It's just sitting around until then.
