07 335i Won't Start. Please Help
Went to start car this morning and it just spun and spun but would not start. Got some lights about DBC errors and a few others.
I have a procede tune and I noticed I could not get the Procede into the control center mode with the cruise stalk. So I suspected a tune issue. I tried connecting the laptop to the procede and I could not communicate with it. I decided to remove the procede. Removed all of the procede connectors and put the connections back to stock. Tried to start car and same issue. Getting codes 2ACC & 2ACB both relating to DME Main Relay or something. So at this point I suspect some sort of power issue. I begin probing the connections where the procede taps power off the connector and there is no 12V on that line. The procede taps power off pin 2 of this connector. I separated this connector pulling the top connection off. When I do that I can measure 12V on that pin. So Whatever is connected on the other side of this cable at pin2 seems to be causing an issue? I measured from pin2 to ground and it's pretty low resistance. I doubt it should be that way. What is connected on pin2? Ideas??? Last edited by FirstBMWLA; 07-12-2014 at 03:41 PM.. |

Update. Found one piece of the problem.
I traced the wiring that was shorted and found that it ran toward the front of the engine to the Vanos solenoids and camshaft sensors. I just happen to notice that one group of wires was being pinched badly behind the notch where the other group of wires pictured were sitting. As soon as I removed the bundle from being pinched the short cleared. Evidently when the car was built this wiring was improperly pinched instead of being put into the slot like it should have been. At this point I thought I was home free. I could now measure 12V on all pins of the DME green connector. Go to start car and it finally cranks but I'm getting surging throttle up and down. Exactly like an issue I've had before. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=909921 I scan for codes and the only codes I see now are errors on both camshaft sensors(where those wires ran to). Codes 2A9E Camshaft Sensor Inlet, Synchronization 2A9F, Camshaft Sensor Outlet, Synchronization 2A9A, Camshaft Sensor Inlet, Signal 2A9B, Camshaft Sensor Outlet, Signal So I'm not sure if the wires being pinch and the subsequent short damaged them or not. I'm also not even sure if that is the cause of the surging idle. Last time I had that issue i could temporarily clear it by removing the throttle body electrical connector and replugging it. This time it didn't help when I tried that. It all makes sense now too because just two weeks ago I made a thread about getting camshaft inlet sensor errors. I managed to clear them up for time being by removing and swapping/cleaning both vanos solenoids and camshaft sensors. I assume when I did that I probably wiggled the wiring enough to clear any issues for a bit. Now I'm unsure where to go. Do I try buying both new camshaft sensors just to see if it helps or not. I'm REALLY pissed though I'm out of warranty and this issue is BMWs fault. It's not a wear and tear part. The car was built wrong. Last edited by FirstBMWLA; 07-12-2014 at 09:45 PM.. |

Not sure if one of the wires is orange with a black stripe but it looks like there may be a split casing in the second picture where the loom is damaged. Sometimes reseting all adaptations will resolve those vanos codes.

Guess I'm just gonna have to take a chance and replace both camshaft sensors.
I just wonder is the surging idle and unresponsive throttle the symptom I should expect if both are indeed bad? If the sensors don't do the trick I guess I'll have to tow it to the dealer because I won't know where to go from there. |

Reset the adaptations with the procede before throwing parts at it.

Yes but unless you have a BT cable or INPA you will need to use it to reset your adaptations. I'm pretty sure it will resolve your issue.

Have you tried probing both ends? Do you get the same voltage at the sensor and the connector?

Still pissed. Told me I'd have to prove wiring was pinched from factory to get any sort of out of warranty help on it. Guess they think i would've messed with the wiring and shoved it into the small crack to pinch it instead of putting the loom in the obviously visible slot for it..... |

Update from dealer:
Replaced all wiring in damaged harness and issue remains. I told them I felt it was unnecessary. I'd have just taped the orange wire with abrasion and electrical taped the whole bundle. They thought it was wiring and told me if it wasn't they would not charge me any additional labor if they were wrong on that. It's giving them errors still about cam sensors and throttle body now. They've tested throttle body and deemed it good. Now they believe it's one of the early 07 DME failures. They told me they are working a DME replacement from BMW under the extended 8yr/80k warranty BMW did on certain 07 model DMEs. Will update when I hear more. |

ECU Was replaced at dealer under the extended 8yr warranty.
Car seems to be good now. Only thing I've noticed is with the new ECU my gas mileage seems to have taken ~1.5-2mpg hit from what it was before. Ideas? Maybe I should try a full reset of the procede and ECU or something. |
