Do you mean "catted" like it says in your title or "catless" meaning without a catalytic convertor.

Stock, all of our cars have catted downpipes and will pass inspection in that regard.

A Catless downpipe is a whole different story

Do you have a check engine light for it? If you don't its fine.

That's the obvious I want to buy one but don't the CEL. That's the whole reason for this post.

Have you checked out this thread? It looks the Wagner catted downpipe is able to avoid the CEL without issue both according to the poster as well as if you take a look at the Wagner website claims. I am also looking into getting one of these for these reasons.

Not sure what the protocol is in NY but in Colorado we need to pass both a sniff check and the diagnostics check. I gather that if you have no CEL then you're passing the diagnostics check. Once that is completed they rev the car up for about 5 min at all RPMs on a dyno type machine while analyzing the exhaust gas for passing CO and NO levels. In my experience with a high flow cat on my prior car (Audi) it passed with flying colors. The measured values were worse than it would have had if I were using the stock cat but still well below the allowable limits. I have heard the cat can degrade in performance over time and so it is possible that down the road they will fail after passing for multiple years but I've read no solid info on that.

So sorry that I don't have any solid info to give you but this may be enough to get a warm fuzzy that it will pass. The other people to call and ask about it would be AR Designs. They are located in Colorado and they make a catted downpipe too. I have no doubt that they will be able to give you some more concrete info on them. They made them for the N54 too so they probably have collected a lot more evidense on their ability to pass over time (or not). Let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the info. In NY as long as you don't have a CEL your good to go.

That's a damn good idea...is there a substantial power gain since there was no change in overall diameter of piping?
