OEM Chargepipe extension vs Oem Chargepipe non-extension

what is this extension for. i installed a stock pipe without this piece . what is the difference

Interesting, dont believe when I replaced mine it had that on there but mine's a newer n54 2010. Maybe it's a legacy n54 thing.

Noise pipe perhaps (lots of cars are pumping engine noise back into the interior). Just speculation on my part.

Fwiw my 07 doesn't have that.

Funny, when I upgraded my charge pipe the instructions talk about removing that off the factory CP during CP removal and I though to myself "it must be a newer N54 thing.

It's a silencer, some have them some don't. It doesn't do much to be honest.

I had one on my 135 as well, and pretty sure they only came on 135's. I asked my buddy that's a bmw master tech what the hell it was and was told it's to make more noise, not silence it. Either way it made removing my charge pipe a pita. Glad it's gone!
