Is this a good deal? 2007 335i Coupe Lease
2007 BMW 335i Coupe
Jet Black with Black Leather and Aluminum Trim Steptronic Premium Package Cold Weather Package Sport Package with Paddle Shifters Navigation Comfort Access MSRP: $49,950 My CA will take $3000 off that price to help me out "the most they can." Apparently that's just over invoice?! To get my monthly payment down to where I am now, here are some options my CA presented me with: 24 months/20k total miles $499/month - $6500 down 24 months/24k total miles $499/month - $7000 down 36 months/30k total miles $499/month - $7650 down 36 months/36k total miles $499/month - $8100 down That just seems like way too much to put down on a lease. What does everyone think? Any negotiating tips? Are there any internet CA's I can go to that will settle for less of a commission on a sale? I thought since this was a 2007 model, I should be able to get it at invoice since they will be filling up with 2008 models. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Whats Your Tax Rate? 3000 off is about 500 over invoice. Just put nothing up front and make the big payment. It comes out to the same thing at the end. Either way you going to pay 25k and change outa your pocket over 3 years if you went with the 36 month lease with 10k miles a year.

never, ever ever, put that much money down on a lease.. try for multiple security deposits, or lease a car you can afford

I 2nd that... putting down money on the lease is as effective as playing slots with it... god forbid you crash the car you can kiss your 8K good bye. I paid $800 out of the pocket inclusive of the 1st mo payment and don't regret it a bit.

Not sure what the tax rate is, but that quote is including tax.
How does the multiple security deposit method work? I can afford the car - I just prefer my monthly payment to be in a certain ballpark range for tax write-off purposes. I already have the 335i Sedan and I am fairly happy with it. I would really like to get the Coupe though, with the extra features my Sedan does not have.

That's crazy. I put $3k down and 15K/36 months for mines. I pay $625 a month. I got all those options plus the Parksensors. The $625 includes my NY taxes too.

Lots of financial services jobs being slaughterd right now and through the first quarter. I bet you will see many 2007 coupes for sale with less than 10k miles or in my case less than 5k miles in the next 3 months.
If I lose my job you would be able to get a great coupe with 4500 miles for about 10k less. |

Yeah and end up with a $1000/month payment?
Seriously... With $3k down on this car, what should my payment be each month? I'm hoping it's somewhere in the ballpark of $625. Maybe my CA is just trying to make a killing off of me since he can see that I'm doing fairly well with my business right now? It seems like a lot of that "down payment" is going straight to his commission check.

not sure about most of it going to his commission check but here in NY/NJ a CA makes 17% of whatever they make on the car. He could be telling you its 500 over invoice but he could be adding to the base money factor to add more profit to the deal. |

You should always pay the minimum drive off for a lease. That's way too much down unless you plan to buy the sucker. Even if your monthly is higher, it's best you don't invest too much in it ahead of time in case anything happens to the car. With that cost, might as well get a 2008!

Holy cow that's a lot of money down. I will second what others said and not put that much down. Also, consider doing European Delivery- you'll get lower payments with minimal down payment.

Any money down on a lease is a liability. Don't do it.

Ok so I've pretty much concluded that I shouldn't have put $5k down on my Sedan... I'm going to transfer the lease and try to get at least $3k back. The payment is only $497/mo which is pretty good for a 335i Sedan.
Now, the hunt for a 335i Coupe with $0 down and a payment around $650... Where do I start looking?! Any referrals or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You think so? I already had someone offer $3k for the takeover. There's people that will scrape up that cash to get a monthly payment below $500 on a 335i.

"Last spring we were selling coupes and convertibles at sticker price or within a couple hundred dollars of sticker, as were all the other dealers. The reason has to do with supply and demand, you couldn't even find a new coupe - there was a 3 month waiting list. Winter is the best time to buy or lease a hot sport car like that coupe because 90% of the interested buyers are going to be making a move in the spring, not the winter. It's just like boats, boats are in highest demand during spring/early summer. The hardest time to sell a boat is in the fall/winter and that's the best time to buy a boat. And BMW manages that supply and demand very well, if there's a 100 people that want a new coupe, BMW is going to build 99 of them. That way the demand is always hot and that's why BMW rarely ever uses any incentive programs (rebates, etc.) like every other manufacturer does.
That being said, we are showing you $3000 off MSRP on our new coupe now, whether you pay cash, lease, or finance. Our sales price is the same regardless of how you purchase it. How you pay for it makes no difference to us. Generally speaking, it's wise not too put a lot of money down on a lease and keep more money in the bank. What we quoted you is an awesome deal and it's going to be higher in the spring, I can almost guarantee that. We are competitive with any dealer and we pride ourselves on taking care of our clients. So know that I'm taking care of you. If you want to get the payment lower then maybe we should look at a car with less equipment. Just a thought...let me know what you think." What would you say to this as far as negotiating goes? I want to get the payment around $675/month with $0 down. 12k/year 32 month lease.

Think now would be a good time to buy, or early next year?

Again I am going to agree with everybody and say that is a lot of money down and woudlnt recommend it, Multiple security deposits is another nice way to go, less of a liability and lowers ur payments at the expense of losing interest off that money
that being said in my situation I price shopped with MSD's and $0 cap cost reduction so that i could accurately compare different dealers. End result was I chose a dealer based on that but my dad, who paid for it, has this principal thing where he doesnt think a kid should have a car that costs $x dollars a month, so in addition to the MSD's he put down $x to get the monthly lease payment down to "what he wanted to see" but that was a purely physcological reason, which i didnt agree with, but i had no right to say anything. So my conclusion is if you have the extra cash, go with MSD's over cap cost reductions and if u dont want to put up the MSD's go with a $0 cap cost, because as i'm sure many will tell you god forbid you total the car during the lease u lose that cap cost reduction. Good luck with your hunting |
