Independent BMW/German Mechanics

I am looking for an honest, not expensive, and good independent BMW/German mechanic in either the Philly or Monmouth County, NJ areas. I had another post about my service experience with Otto's BMW in Westchester, PA. The below is what they said I "needed" done and the charges. Thanks in advance!

$530 for a rear tire that i see on tire rack for $270
$460 for spark plugs
$420 for a front tire that i see on tire rack for $230
$220 for a brake fluid change, i see them for $70. does this even need to be changed at 50k miles?
$210 for an alignment, i see them for $80
$140 for cabin air filter, i see them for $25. is this a hard job?
$140 for a CBS Vehicle Check...probably the same as the $80 i flushed for the "vehicle CBS Standard Scope"
$110 for a brake light bulb, i see them for $.99
$95 for wipers, i see them for around $20...i think theyre working fine

Z&M Auto for the WIN, Linky --> http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=893098

Also for those small items I could have helped you out for free at my meet ups.... but I'm now moving to LI so your commute to me would be longer. But seriously, give Z&M a call and tell them Faz sent you... they will make sure you are given more than fair prices and I would give you a pepsi challenge to find better price, quality, or service anywhere in the North East when compared to Z&M auto!

Try Helix! They are in Manayunk, right off rt. 76 and they are real straight shooters. Eric is the owner and he is a good guy and has a good team. You will find many posts about their shop and service on this forum and you can look them up on Yelp for some more reviews. helix13.com is their web site fyi.

Sounds like OP should price compare the various recommended shops. You would be surprised at how vastly different the pricing can be, the rest comes down to Quality and Service.

I could do half the things on that list if you have a driveway/garage to work in... Nothing on there is complicated per say, you're just paying the BMW tax on everything.

I'm located in Ocean County but travel to Monmouth daily.

I second the Helix recommendation. I have had coding, tuning, intake cleaning, and more done and they are priced fairly and knowledgeable about the platform.

I HATE the stealership!

We are located in Northern Jersey so a bit of a drive...but we can make it well worth it.

If your still in need, shoot us a call @ 973-545-2727. If you'd rather text, shoot a text to 973-493-2886.

Depending on tire, I could do MUCH better on than even tire racks price.

$460 for plugs?!?! NOOO. Cut that in half!

Brake fluid change? Hopefully they mean flush. Trust me I've seen dealers just replace the fluid in the tank without actually doing a flush. I do say to do a flush every 2 years. It's a very important part of the braking system, depending how bad it is. Again we charge well over half off what they quoted.

Cabin air filter, brake light bulbs, wipers etc we wouldn't even charge for install if you bundled the work!

Either way, if your in need of just parts, let me know we have them shipped right to your house!

Some of the stuff is pretty simple (Windshielf Wiper), but for the more mechanical stuff I would highly recommend Garth & Undercover Performance Pennsauken (https://www.facebook.com/UndercoverPerformanceNJ) in Pennsauken, NJ -- About 15 mins from Philly. They're more well known for building horsepower monsters (Turbo E46 M3s, Supras, GTRs, Turbo Porsches, etc), but they're also very capable of regular maintenance. Garth (the owner) has worked on my car several times & is always a text message away, he offers very fair pricing for very high quality.

Give him a call, if someone doesn't answer the phone it's probably cause they're on the dyno so just leave a voicemail or shoot them an email.
