Best HWY MPG
For about 200 miles I was averaging 42 mpg, a/c on, rolling hills on a stretch of I81. Average speed was 75 mph.
I was doing slight hypermiling: - Coasting down hills - Didn't accelerate going up hills - Never used the brakes ![]() Once I stopped caring and after a little city driving I totaled out around 39.2 MPG for the 700 mile trip. I figure with lighter wheels/tires/brake rotors? a tune and a mufflerectomy I could get into the mid 40s. What have you guys seen? If this is a duplicate thread, sorry ![]() |

There's no way you can get even decent hwy mpg around my parts unless you're on the road anytime past midnight to comfortably activate cruise control.
I need to go on a road trip soon to see how well my diesel can do in the mpg department.

almost 44mpg cruising behind an 18-wheeler for an hour at 75 mph. For non-hypermiling: 40mpg from Tampa to New Orleans with cruise at 70mph and a/c on.

Somewhere around 43 is about the limit I've ever gotten. That was in ideal (no wind, 60-65 mph) conditions.
Mileage is in the $hitter if under 50 mph (can't get into 6th), and anything over 65 mph starts to lower mpg also. Big fat sports package tires don't help, nor do runs to 100+ to pass traffic! ![]() |

My road trip last August of 6,500 miles from east to west and back had several tanks in the high 39 to low 41 range. Am heading next week on another road trip, but this time from Portland OR to Pagosa Springs CO and back, with a meandering itinerary on the way back to see the natural sites in the Rockies, northern AZ, southern UT, etc. Will post trip report with mileage and some pics. I am at 34.5k miles on the odometer.

37.3mpg @ 85mph was the best I have seen. My vehicle average is 27.7 on a 65/35 city/highway daily commute.

I just completed a 1100 mile drive back to TX and averaged 30mpg over the entire trip (via idrive). I noticed that the efficiency shows ~48 mpg @ 84mph. That's consistent with my other 335d which displays the same consumption rate at that speed. Sure seems high but the slightest rise or change in pedal input causes the efficiency to plummet.

I'm generally at 36MPG in 80-85mph traffic with no attempt to conserve fuel.
I have hit 42 for a 155 mile trip at 65 MPH, but it features a 1000 foot elevation change from start to finish. Return trip was 40MPG. I can't drive like this. ![]() |
