Has anyone gotten Walnut Blasting done out of warranty under BMW goodwill?
My 2008 335i now has 62k miles and badly needs a walnut blasting.
The dealer wants $1,100. Most independent shops want $450-$580. I first started asking about a walnut blast at 45k miles and bugged my service advisor every time my car was in the shop for a year. They never did it. But of course they recommend it now that the car is out of warranty. Has anyone ever complained to BMW NA and gotten a walnut blast covered under goodwill? This is such a design flaw and I don't really feel like shelling out $600 for this.

lt's not a design flaw, it's an inherent flaw of EVERY car on the planet that has direct injection ONLY. Kind of like calling tune up cost of an old car with a distributer a design flaw. Things evolve and manufacturers are beginning to incorporate port injection with direct injection to keep valves clean.
And technically speaking the efficiency advantage of direct injection sort of neutralizes the cost of a every 50k mile maintenance service. |

if it was a design flaw it would only exist in the N54...

Mine wouldnt do it under cpo or goodwill. They charged me 700$ (Took them 6h work) for it. But ended up with free front brake service when they are due because they created issues with the car not there before I dropped my car. (Did rear brake and walnut blasting ended up with awd failure (rear speed sensor + steering angle sensor miscoded), non-working radio (new one on its way), missing rear tow hook cover (to be painted monday) and sunroof still malfunctioning after recoded (sunroof motor changed under cpo)).

Well fuck. I heard back from BMW North America and they told me that they would not cover the walnut blast.
I've got to shell out for it on my own. Not very happy about this, but it is what it is.

i have a code for vanos solenoid that i brought in right before the cpo expired. after a few months the code came back (and a few others) and they replaced the vanos this time and checked a few other things and decided to walnut blast. didnt have to ask them. was about 3months out of warranty. they usually dont walnut blast on its own, but related to another problems they are trying to fix.
