LIQUI MOLY Pro-Line Diesel Intake System Cleaner

Has anybody tried this stuff? It says it's safe for EGR and DPF, and you can tell by the video that it eats the carbon. Might be screwed if it breaks up big chunks that go downstream and end up holding a valve open or something.

It can't be any worse than installing a water meth kit, it cleans out all the carbon build up as well. Quite a few users are running it with no problems. If this product actually works it would be great! No going to the dealers or installing meth

I have it in my garage. It's not much different from the BG stuff. Same premise, but I would only consider it on a low mileage car.

Using it with direct injection, since the fuel doesn't see most of the intake tract, you'd have to put it through the intake instead of the fuel.

Your always suppose to put it through the intake, in the fuel is even more SNAKE OIL...

Just a FYI. You will have to disconnect the charge pipe AND the anti-shudder valve to gain access to the intake. At that point it's just having someone run the car at 2k rpms. Like I said if you're up in mileage you will be sending a bunch of soot down stream to the DPF. It's not the product itself as it will burn up, but the amount of soot. It'll burn off, but you'd probably want to go on a long drive to make sure you get an uninterrupted regeneration. The amount of soot is why LM states to use for preventative maintenance. If I were over say 30k miles I would think twice OR just call LM and get their opinion.

I was talking to a Mercedes shop who does this work on their diesels. The owner suggested using two cans if you want to make things really clean.

You also will have to clear codes.

I actually have used it on our 35d. It now has 83K miles and used it twice...

It's painstakingly slow process, but it works: the spray comes out at a very fine mist and takes about 10-15 minutes to empty the whole bottle. It's not a miracle but it does dissolve the soot/oil mix you find in the intake. The EGR valve gets very clean and the inside of the intake gets cleaner too.

The tar (soot from the EGR + oil mist from the CCV) buildup in the intake is tough to melt, but this product works.

A few things:
1) it will not break chunks like some say: it is not penetrating and melts the tar away from the surface
2) it will not harm the DPF: the stuff removed from the intake burns in the combustion chamber. I've monitored the DPF backpressure and actually noticed it lower at the end of the treatment than the beginning
3) when I did it the first time I remove the EGR valve and the throttle plate but the car gets very loud and it stinks since the exhaust comes out of the EGR and you're running the engine at 2000 RPM. The second time I did it I left the EGR connected and simply disconnected it. That way the valve stays close.
4) it comes with a very long extension and a nozzle. Superglue the extension to the the bottle and the nozzle to the extension to avoid it coming undone.
5) I've inspected the intake with a snake cam and you can see the difference

Like I said one treatment will not make the intake sparkling clean, but it works and if you do it every oil change (my routine) it slowly cleans the intake or remove whatever builds up between treatment.

And yes, by the end of it you'll have a collection of some 20+ codes...

Just my experience.

Thank you zetatre!! I love hearing from an actual user of a product instead of hearsay from other people. I may get some for mine, I still have 30k on my CPO and I'm not getting meth til the warranty is up. I don't want to deal with the dealership for CBU

Good luck, let us know how it works, I actually did use this on My tdi and did absolutely nothing, tried a few others as well with no results, I was inside the engine a lot also...never tried it on the BMW...

Just to be clear on my post: the stuff cleans the intake and the EGR I would lie if I said it wouldn't. It does melts and liquefy the tar... Slowly but it does.

As far as any noticeable difference in performance however defined I noticed none whatsoever... MPG, buttdyno, blinker fluid... Nothing that I can measure or intelligently link to using this product. But I was also not expecting any

Good comment about super gluing the nozzle tip. I popped mine off and down the f'king charge pipe when I was doing a test fit.

Good Results

I picked up our used X5 35d about a year ago for a song. That should have been my first clue. It has 140,000 miles but it was well maintained. I cant find anywhere in the service records where a carbon blast has been done. After a year, we are just now seeing the signs of CBU. My dealer wants $3,000 for a walnut blast. After reading this thread, I used Liqui Moly's intake cleaner this weekend with great results. Highway MPG increased from 24 to 31.6, there is more power and the vehicle seems more responsive. I used two cans, decreasing the RPMs to 1k-1.5k for the second can. Also, I took the spray nozzle off of the second can in order to go beyond just the EGR and Throttle areas. I will probably do two more cans at the next oil change. I thought that it might be a bit of a gamble but it seems to pay off. Thanks to all who have responded to this thread. Your experience has been very helpful.

Forget the dealer...indy shops charge between $500-$1,100 for diesel CBU cleaning. I'd be curious to see if anyone has done before and after pics under the manifold.

My mechanic used it and it seemed to help short-term. I had a bad DPF which couldn't be saved, but this treatment along with another he did bought me crucial time to resolve the root cause issue.

Similar experience here. I used two cans of it and it did help for a few months. It wasn't until I pulled the intake to do a real CBU cleaning that I saw the mess this aerosol spray is actually up against. Maybe if one used it every 7.5K miles after a CBU cleaning it could lengthen the time between cleanings but with our engines it seems kind of like polishing the brass on the Titanic with an intact EGR system.
