VRSF intercooler testing on stock turbos
Since i never really got to mess with a stock car since all these cool things have came out i figured i'd do the best i could to document progression as i build another ST car.
Starting with my first mod, the VRSF intercooler. Being as pleased as i was with it on my last ST car i figured id stick with something that works. I've read numerous posts about how much faster and more powerful the car felt after doing these upgrades but never really experienced it for my self. My last car went from sled to rocket in a few months so i didn't really appreciate single components as i did a combination. I decided to go a little different route this time and look into what makes a intercooler give more power besides cooler IAT. So the following tests were done on a 100% stock car with a flash only stg1. I wanted to see the effect the IC had on rear bank knock, timing, boost, and temp. The results were pretty impressive. I repeated the same exact test on the same road, same path, and within a 2-3*F ambient temp. The stock IC peaked at about 173*F in third, where as the VRSF peaked at about 128*F. (this was strictly a temp comparison at peak. Timing is invalid in these pictures due to post throttle closure) (first 2 pictures) Next lets look at timing. As we know anything above 140's the DME starts pulling timing. How much timing? about 6* (2nd 2 pictures) Boost pretty much stayed the same. I would think it it would target regardless based on the DME logic. Rear cylinder bank knock didnt really change a whole lot. Again this is part of the DME logic to make the cylinders as quiet as possible, hence why it pulls timing for hight IAT. Lastly with ambient temp around 83*F i made 5 pulls back to back. Some running thru multiple gears, some just stretching out gears. The results were really impressive. The max temp was 118, Now you may think why was it cooler than the above testing? My thought on this is simple. I didn't go from a standing start so the intercooler really didn't have time to heat up in the lower gears before it had sufficient airflow going through it to cool the core. My slowest speed was probably around 30MPH and traveling upwards of 100+. So even though your holding gears and boost longer the intercooler becomes very efficient above 30-45mph. Another thing to note is how quickly the IC recovers from a heat soak. (3rd Last picture) Next on my list is to run a custom tune that i'll brew up over time and monitor progress into my next ST build. Data zap. http://datazap.me/u/3000gt-mr/interc...log=0&data=1-3

Cool story bro, but are the pics?
I kid! Good info man! This latest revision to the VRSF intercooler seems to be making a pretty big difference in overall efficiency. It'll be interesting to see the data trail as you get the car built up. Now all you need to do is change your sig! |

He lost a fight with some trees. Bad luck on fresh pavement and heavy rain.

Ok sorry for the delay. For some reason it worked on my end but apparently broken for everyone else. I changed it to hyperlinks so that the verbiage stays with the corresponding picture

Some install pics on the new car. I really like the stud idea with the rubber bushings. If your like me and tear apart your car once a month then you'll appreciate this little addition. Everything fit fine in the e92 M-sport front bumper. Fin packs, welds and overall construction seem to be a little better in quality than my previous one.
The only problem i had was i was missing 1 sticker. So now i only have 1 on the drivers side and nothing on the passenger side. Its kind of throwing my weight and balance off
