Capital Raceway in Crofton, MD

Has anyone ever been? If so, what's the crowd like? Are the people fairly welcoming? I assume I need a helmet. I would appreciate any and all info. Thanks.

I have the same question about capital raceway. I have been thinking to go out and see what my car will run on one of the test and tune nights. I don't think you need a helmet unless you run less than a 12 sec quarter if I remember the rules correctly.

Im pretty sure anything in the 12's needs a helmet at capital. I needed one in my subaru when i ran 12.4. Maybe they changed the rules now though.

Mir is a better track, but capital is much closer. capital is cheaper too iirc. You usually need a helmet when going 13.99 or faster....and stock, you are already faster than that on a good run, so helmet would be required. I think (but am not sure) that once you surpass an 11.39 or 11.49 e/t, some sort of roll cage is required too. Not sure on the cage part though.

I grew up going to Capital. I always heard other tracks are a little nicer, there is also always a faster car.... I like it there, nice mixed crowed. I took my vw's there, I had my m3 there quite a bit, had my cobra there and will be taking the 335 and the v there during the fall when the da's are good. A helmet is required 13.99 and lower, but you can get away with some runs without one. During tech in they would tell you to get your launches where you want them and let out before the 1,320 mark and when you feel like you have a good launch let it rip until you get kicked out. I have been 12.xx passes in a vert which you are supposed be have a roll bar anything 12.99 or lower and I was never kicked out.... If you plan on trying to run without a helmet, during tech in don't tell them you plan on going 13.99 or lower....

I would love to organize a meet and greet that would include a visit to the track. Please let me know if you are interested. The track is pretty centrally located...about 20 minutes north of DC and 20 minutes south of Baltimore.

I've cut my best 60fts, ET's and trap speeds at Capitol vs MIR. Could be coincidence but I've gone to both enough times.

People there are welcoming. Mostly domestic cars.

I will keep checking back in. If the weather stays like this, I would be more interested in going sooner than later.

So far it sounds like djervin, rezinator and myself are interested. I'd really like to get at least two or three more. Let me know so we can get a date that works for everyone. Thanks.

That's a good question. Probably 18...but could be 21. I'll look at their website. Might have to give them a call.

I believe below 18 you need a guardian to sign a waiver, besides that I think they have kid races in mini rails.... I know when I was in high school a few of my friends under the age of 16 went with their Fathers, Uncles, etc... and raced.

How does Friday, September 5th sound to everyone. Test & tune runs from 4:30 til 11:00. We can meet at the track or somewhere else beforehand to get a bite to eat and get acquainted. Let me know if that day works. If so, then we can move on to time and place. Thanks.

It's decent but MIR is close also, and is a way better prepped track. Just need a helmet if your in 13's-12's
