Pebble Beach Concours & Tour d'Elegance
There is going to be a lot of news, photos, stories, etc. in the next couple of days around Pebble Beach. This is a good place to compile everything.
We've already had a few stories here about the i8 Concours edition, lightweight e-Type (I think I read that here?), etc. Today is the "Tour d'Elegance" ..details are below. Is anyone going to be there?? COUNCOURS Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Here's a Pano of the 2013 Concours: http://gigapixel.panoramas.com/pebbl...concours/2013/ Once each year, on the third Sunday in August, about 200 of the most prized collector cars and motorcycles in the world roll onto the fairway of what is often called the best finishing hole in golf — the famed eighteenth at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Tire meets turf and transformation occurs: the stage is set for one of the most competitive events in the automotive world. The occasion is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Originally a small social event paired with a road race through the pine and cypress forests of Pebble Beach, the Pebble Beach Concours has grown into the top-ranking collector car competition in the world. People from all over the globe come to compete in or simply witness and enjoy the event here at Pebble Beach. The Concours is not a contest of speed, but of elegance. Automobiles and motorcycles are judged for their historical accuracy, their technical merit and their style—and the best garner reward and recognition. • Maserati Centennial • Ruxton • Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa • Fernandez et Darrin Coachwork • Early Steam Cars • Rolls-Royce Phantom Postwar • Streamlined Tatra • 1914 French Grand Prix • Eastern European Motorcycles The success of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance rests in large part on the knowledgeable experts who help to select and judge the automobiles and motorcycles invited to appear on our show field. These experts also make a significant contribution to the automotive world as a whole by helping to establish an accurate record of these vehicles. The automobiles on our show field and the new cars on our concept lawn cover more than a hundred years of automotive style and technology. Our automotive past is ever expanding and this Concours is committed to celebrating automotive excellence both past and present. Increasingly, as in the early days of the Concours, innovative concepts and new cars debut at Pebble Beach. A total of 22 concepts and new cars were unveiled at the 2013 event. event details August 17 Dawn Field opens to entrants 9 a.m. Judging commences 10:30 a.m. Field opens to spectators 1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Awards are presented TOUR The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex is an annual driving event that delights entrants and spectators alike. Initiated to showcase the elegance of the automobile in motion, the Tour also underscores the early history of the place that is Pebble Beach. Decades before golf links were laid out along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, this area was known for its scenic drive, winding for miles through pine and cypress forest, dancing alongside dramatic cliffs and leading, ultimately, to a beautiful crescent-shaped bay. The traditional Tour traces portions of the original 17-Mile Drive, traverses nearby mountains and valleys, and pauses for a time in charming Carmel-by-the-Sea. This year the Tour will once again add a lap around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Tour participants enjoy a catered gourmet lunch, a champagne celebration at the finish and commemorative gifts. The Tour is open to all entrants in the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. And spectators are invited to view the Tour at key points along the route, particularly along Ocean Avenue in Carmel. It is important to note that the Tour and the Concours are directly linked. If two vehicles tie in class competition at the Concours, the vehicle that has successfully completed the Tour gets the nod. Dates and times for the 2014 Tour are as follows: event details August 14 - 7 – 8 a.m. Cars line up near Collins Field in Pebble Beach 8:00 a.m. Tour departs, tracing portions of 17-Mile Drive and nearby scenic roads 8:50 - 9:40 a.m. Tour circles track at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca 11:00 – 12 noon Tour arrives in Carmel-by-the-Sea 12 noon – 2 p.m. Cars are displayed on Ocean Avenue 2 – 2:30 p.m. Tour returns to Pebble Beach 3:00 p.m. Concluding Champagne toast for participants key contact Sean Jacobs sjacobs@pebblebeachconcours.net

I'm going down tomorrow for the freebie events...Jaguar and Bentley. My wife and I will then go down to Carmel-by-the-Sea and Big Sur.
$275 for tickets is insane...I'd rather just watch it on TV. The price for the historical races are reasonable, that's how much sporting tickets are these days anyways.. |
