KwV1 3months post install
hey whats up..
so its been about 3 months since riding Kwv1 on my 2009 328xi coupe. I am very please with them, soft/comfortable, yet stiff enough, close to OEM comfort. the drop is perfect, nice and flush in front, and flush in rear. with still 3 threads left in front. so not crazy aggressive, but more then solved the infamous front rake issue. still have the supplied v1 bumpstops on, with no issues or knocking. "However", I have noticed as of late, I im hearing a clicking sound from the front left corner..?? not a knocking/binding sound, neither a loose sound. the car sits solid and is solid over humps/bumps/cracks in road etc.. but when I do go over cracks, I hear this Click, click sound? it comes only from front left corner. and can only hear it with window down. when window is up, it is near silent, other then normal road noise etc.. I googled " KwV1 clicking sound", and it actually came up with a result with a guy in an Audi forum experiencing same noise. his set had the helper spring under the main spring, our set does not have helper spring. but all he did was lift car and rotated the spring and said it solved it. so maybe in my case its something similar, and the spring is rubbing on something..? I will try this to see if works.. also I read when the bearing in top mount goes bad, it can make that clicking sound. our V1's retain all the top hap/mount components. so perhaps this could also be it..? anways, looking to see if anyone else experienced this clicking sound..? thanks..! |

Could possibly be an issue with one of the bolts not being torqued properly happened to me on my vette. With suspension the torque spec is important.

Are you sure it's coming from the coilovers? Bad CV joints can make clicking noises heard at low speeds so it might be worth inspecting if rotating the spring on the coil doesn't solve it.

thanks for the feedback..
actually to be honest I dont suspect its coming from the actual coilover.. just came back from some errands and purposely went on some side roads.. and tried to lean my head towards/out the window. the suspension absorbs the road perfect..but I do hear the click sound.. it almost seems like its coming from the side mirror.. as the suspension absorbs a bump/crack, sends a vibration, and rattles the mirror.. right at the joint where it connects to car. anyways it doesnt seem to be serious and probably beeing over picky lol.. I will keep trying to see if I can hear/locate better where its coming from. |

I had a long discussion regarding the endlinks in another thread.
purposely I made sure the lowering collar cleared the endlink In my case they did. but I had seen a thread where a guy could not lower the collars past the endlink where it mounts to the strut, therefore limiting his lowering range. luckily I did not have that issue. now that's when the car was up. maybe when the car is sitting with spring fully compressed I could be rubbing against the endlink. I will have to check this. or are you suggesting in general when endlinks go bad that they are known to make a clicking sound? |

well.. im pretty convinced this clicking sound is coming from the left side mirror..
I drove around my block 10times, rolling over every little crack, bump, sewer, to reproduce the sound. theres no question the click sound is there.. but seems to be coming out of the mirror.. as if the actual mirror or something inside the frame shakes when going over bumps.. the actual left/front strut is solid over bumps/cracks, it does not knock/rattle or anything. I also examined the endlinks, by rotating the wheels at full lock to each side. the spring itself is nowhere near the mounting tab for the endlink, and the endlink itself fully clears the spring and collar. by very little but it doesnt touch. so that rules out any type of rubbing etc.. so likely now that the springs have fully settled after 3months of driving, the body, chassis and anything else has settled with it, and thus why im only hearing this sound that was not there intially when Kws where installed.. |
