Well,

I got a new toy and decided to see what kind of number my stock 08 coupe was producing, at least according to the Gtech. I'm curious to hear people's opinions about my times.

Some things not on the graph...outside temp 44F, slight incline on the straightaway. I'm running 19 inch wheels/PS2 and had about a quarter tank of gas.

4.8 - 4.9 seems a bit low considering the temps, but then again traction wasn't wonderful...Here's the graph:

Looks like a good baseline! I always suggest 4 runs, two each way on the same road, to get the average.

Those speeds are right in line with a stock, new 335i. As you get around 4000 miles, your speeds should be in the 105mph range. And then after 7000 miles, under ideal conditions, you might touch 106mph in cool temps. 13.3-13.6 seems to be the range it will probably run. And by looking at your run, its obvious you have an automatic, which is good for 1/4 mile runs.

Seems pretty good to me too.

I'm guessing, like Hotrod said, you'll do better with more miles.

But 44 degree temps are pretty sweet.

You won't improve your times in 70+ degree temps that's for sure.

But low to mid 13's at 104-106 mph is what stock 335i's are gettng.

that sure does look like an auto Gtech graph. Looks good too......if your complaining w/ your "sticky" PS2's, put your RFT back on and report back. You will not like them.

Not bashing the PS2's, just remarking on the temps

I actually need to sell my old 189's and RFT!


I'll definitely have to do some more runs later this week. I'd like to get a pretty solid baseline before I start modding. Curiously, I ran a bit later tonight after filling up my tank and got a 4.980 0-60. I was expecting 14 gallons of gas to result in more of a drop-off, but it was a bit colder out too (36F).

I've worried since I got my car that it was sloooower than normal...nice to know it's right where it should be

Well, you have a few thousand more miles before the car is really fully broken in and at it's best.
But with an auto and 93 Octane, you have the best combo for acceleration and 1/4 mile times.

13.46's @ 104.4 mph should be right on par.

With a couple grand more miles you should probably see
a touch quicker times but not much, as 13.4-13.6 @ 104-106 mph is the norm for the stock 335i.

I did some gtech runs alst night as well in my jb2 335i. It was 50 degress farenheit probabaly the coldest day in boca raton all year. I had absolutely NO traction in first gear on my bald stock tires. But I was trapping at 109mph +. Cold weather must of added a good 15 wheelhp

Yep,

It'll record all the usual milestones as you hit them and leave any you don't at zero...so you don't have to run 1/4 mile everytime.

Yes, that's possible, you just let off the gas after you pass 65 mph mark. ( I say 65 mph because our cars speedos run fast, so to make sure you hit at least 60 mph go until the speedo hits 65...or even 70 if you want.

But honestly 0-60 is so meaningless these days.

Not bad at all. I like that you can actually demonstrate the benefit of adding certain parts to the car w/o spending money on a dyno each time. Now, how can I convince the wife that I need this?

that is the ultimate sleeper......non M5 5 series putting down some great numbers. I bet you surprise many a street racer.

It is a good thing when you can do 3 runs on the GTECH and they all look almost like one line. Consistancy and more likely to be accurate. If one line is way different, it probably is an aberration, unless you can obviously correlate it to a noticeably different launch, temps, etc. What I noticed at first was in cold cold temps, my M3 would get better and better traps. The 335i would kind of level off in the 105-106mph range. This is because the boost is limited no matter how cold the temps are. In fact, the ECU tries to make more boost when it is warmer/higher elevations. I was able to get in the 13.2-13.3 range stock, but that requires you to launch in the 2.0x range for your 60' times. Remember, I was able to get 13.46 at 101.x at Palmdale, bone stock...so you should be able to do better than a 13.4 @ 105mph. I don't know about running the "H" on 91 octane. I really don't want any CELs, so I will probably take some time to think about it.

In response to running 13's at 111mph:
You shoud definitely be in the 12's. I can run 110mph with just the JB2, but I still have my cats, and no aftermarket exhaust. I will run right around 12.8 set up that way, and 12.6 on the "R" switch. I wish they had an authentic race track around here. Its so ridiculous, all the legislation to stop street racers, but no one wants to provide us a place to test our cars! I now have a guy in a 03 Cobra that is dying to race me, and some kid in a modified SRT10 Truck. I sure wish we had a local strip, because I am itching to race them..
So for those of us without a track nearby, the Gtech is an invaluable tool for testing and tuning. It will pick up the slightest of HP increases. If I can go from 113.6 to 114mph with a performance airfilter, I will be ecstatic. I called all around Saturday, no one had a K&N for the 335i. (Autozone/Kragen/PAW, etc,etc)

I did have a few runs that were off due to the car losing traction and 'hopping' before finally getting a hold of the road. I tried to be as consistent as possible, just to get an idea of what the car could do when left in DS, shifting for itself, and with DTC activated. Honestly, from most of the posts I've read here, the best Steptronic numbers come from letting it shift in DS and not using the paddles. If nothing else the GTECH provides excellent relative reference points...

I totally hear you on the local strip comment...The nearest 1/8 around here is 1.5 hours away.

I plan on doing some driving this weekend to find nice long straightaways out in rural areas, where I'll have little to worry about.
