New style of BMW roundel

I found the new style of modifying BMW Roundel.

I used the pieces of window tint and covered the blue part.

It looks way more glossier than any other roundels.

And tint paper is way thinner than any other vinyls, or anything that can cover, so you can't even feel it. And it also looks OEM.

One more good thing about it is, you don't have to remove the factory emblem.

How do you guys think??

( I took the picture right under the light to show you how glossy it is. )

5% regular tint

I used 5% regular tint film.
I tried 20% first time, but I could still see the blue a little, so I changed it to 5%.
And I forgot to mention, one more good thing about it is, even if you rub it when u do the car wash, they don't peel off.

How did you go about laying the tint? Did you lay it over the whole emblem and then cut, or did you pre-cut it and then lay it?

Wouldn't the tint get scratched easily? I mean there is a reason why when they tint your windows..they do it from the inside of the car.

I had mine on for a year now, and it's not peeled off, not even a little.

I recommend doing it with tint, if you want overlays. =D

it's little different from the tint on the windows.

because for the windows, it moves all the time, we always roll it up and down.

And the size of the windows are huge, comparing it to the emblem.

Oh, and the tint has two different sides, which do different jobs.

One side with the glue on it MUST be inside of the window because that side is the one you can see through easily. And the other side, which MUST be facing outside of the window, is the part that blocks UV rays.

So that's why if you look at it from the outside, it looks glossier.

I had it for a year, and didn't get any scratches. =D

These are the steps of how I did it.

- I cut the angled part first, make sure it’s perfect 90 degrees.

- Clean the emblem, then spray some water on it.(in the spray bottle, make few drops of soap or shampoo. It will help you move around the film easier after you put it on the emblem. And for the soap or shampoo, use amonia or acid free, because they will make your color fades on the tint later.)
- Peel off the tint, and put it on top of the blue part.

- Make sure it covers all the blue part.(when you do this step, you have to watch it from the side view, or the blue part will show if you just watch it from the top.) (you have to overlay the tint little bit on to the chrome lines)
- Use squeegee, or silicon to squeeze out the water.

- Use hair dryer, or heat gun to shrink the film on to the emblem.
- Find something that has a size of the circle on the emblem.
- When you cut it, make sure u leave very little gap.(it looks better than perfect fit)
I used the cap of HID bulb.

- And again use dryer to shrink the film on the outside part. Make sure it perfectly sticks on to the emblem.

- Tint will stick more on to the emblem, when the engine gets hot. So just drive it around. =D

Hope these steps help. =) I'm sorry for the bad drawings...

yeah, I'm wondering about the scratch as well. Very ingenious alternative to vinyl, that's for sure

How much does it shrink? If it's not too much / predictable, I'll do the cutting before I stick it on...
