The poor man's dyno
Inspired by TDI's adwyse on what data to log on a full fuelling run, I came up with this:
Configure your Torque app to log RPMs, Engine KW, Torque and Exhaust gas temp, configure Torque with your car's actual weight and calibrate your phones accelerometer. Then put your car on a free piece of highway, make sure there's no traffic behind you, go to 3rd gear in manual mode, slow down to about 1000 rpm and then step on it until your car automatically shifts to 4th - repeat as necessary. Then do an XY scatter plot of the data like below: Last edited by Mik325tds; 08-29-2014 at 05:24 PM.. |

Of course not!
![]() There are so many other parameters to control: wind, elevation of the road, etc. But if you put your car on a scale with a full tank and yourself in it, I guess you can achieve quite accurate numbers - or scew them any way you like ![]() |

Whats the TQ number look like if you ask excel (or whatever youre using) to apply a 3rd order trendline? I would think that might look more like a real dyno. Pretty convenient though to be able to get reliable data (assuming you input accurate data)

Love the data!
If you have time try this app. It's way better than Torque for the hp/tq readings and can correct for wind drag and environmental variations (you can still cheat it with wind/elevation though ... so its only as repeatable as the user lets it be): https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...rfexpert&hl=en
