Holiday advice Boston/Philadelphia/Washington DC
Hi guys, coming over on holiday on Tuesday from The UK.
We land and stay in Boston for a few days. The only thing we've got set so far is to see the baseball game on the Friday night. We've the got a few spare days where we haven't booked accommodation yet, before driving onto Philadelphia and then finally Washington DC. I'm interested to see what you guys would recommend for the girlfriend and myself to do. There is obviously loads to try and squeeze into a few days here and there, so I'd like to make sure I see the best the areas have to offer. Your advice is very much appreciated. |

Philadelphia is real fun, tons of history & cheaper than NYC. Visit the liberty bell, art measum & check out the Italian market n south philly. Tons of good restaurants in Rittenhouse square & old city. Atlantic city is about 1.5 hour drive. Send me a pm, I can type up a bunch of good spots / good hotel locations. Give homeaway.com a try for condos around the same price as hotels. Cheers

Avoid driving in DC as much as possible. Speeding cameras all over. I just got nailed for $150 on a recent trip. If you see football grid like lines in the road, that's the manual calculation markings to back up the camera/radar. Otherwise, DC has lots of free museums/zoos, etc.

Cheers guys, not long back.
Had a great time. Enjoyed Boston for a few days before driving up the White Mountains. Came back round and stayed over in Meredith. It was comical. Decided to stop at Albany in NY on the way down, but it wasn't so much for tourists but does have some lovely buildings. Princeton for a stop over before heading to Philadelphia. Picked a good time for Philadelphia with a fair amount going on. Went onwards to Washington DC and thought it was good. Not up to Boston or Philadelphia though, Done a lot of the tourist things and seen some the of more local stuff too. The whale watching at Boston and the baseball were pretty fun. Well, the last 20 mins of the baseball. I'll post a pic or two once I have the chance. I only had a Nissan Altima on loan which was a bit numb to say the least. You guys still have way too many dull cars and cars that don't look safe to be on the road. The taxis in Washington DC were an absolute disgrace. Loads of good sites, loads of good food(way too much, especially Philadelphia) and plenty of craft beer. For a country so strict about alcohol, why do so many bars not state the alcohol content of the beers when some are very potent? Suitcases full of clothes too. All good. |

When it comes to Philly, like any big city, park in the hotel you're staying at, and take cabs into Center City if you plan to explore that part of the city. There's never any decent parking in CC unless you pay $30 for a lot.
And fellow Philly guys will know, don't always believe the PPA/Parking signs on the street EDIT: Annnnnnd I just read your post saying you've already done your exploring
