150,000 and still s great car!
... not that I expected the car to start falling apart, but I still really love this car. I bought it when it was almost 3 years old/ like 55,000 miles. 5 years, lots of enjoyment and still a great car ( no payments certainly hasn't hurt either
![]() It's an early US 390 with a 03/2005 build date abd a very light weight build at that.... no nav, no heated seats, no fold down rear seat, ect ect. It had all I needed which was the sport pack for the suspension and seats, L7 audio and a stick. Daily driver, countless road trips, snow storms, track days.. just a engaging and entertaining car. Part of the enjoyment truly comes from keeping it up and staying on top of maintenance. To me, to own a car like this for just a couple years is a waste, these just aren't throw away cars. Only $$ repairs were a starter at 60,000 (wtf) a clutch at 80,000 (the previous owner clearly couldn't drive a stick real well) and a recent preventative H20 pump. I've rebuilt the front end twice with m3 stuff, did the shocks around 70,000 with the famous $133 bmw performance V1 shocks/struts amd added a 3.38 LSD for some scoot. Great great car. The pics below was last week at the Glen, my first HPDE that I was moved to the advanced intermediate group. I really wanted to turn 150 at the track ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wow, I'm in the same situation too. Just hit 100k and still love my car!

Did you replace the gauge cluster? The cluster with the little ticks only came on 335's and coupes to begin with and only came on 328's in 2008

Yes, I know. I was saying which ones had the ticks, I knew it wasn't possible for this to be a 335i cluster. This must be from a newer model 328 if I had to guess.

How are the new shocks? My cars almost at 80k miles. I'm thinking of doing something to the suspension sometime in the near future.

I think it depends on where and how the car is driven. both my E90 and E91 have the originals with ~100k and both are still very solid. the E91 has a little less miles but will probably need replaced sooner than the E90 (it was definitely driven in harsher conditions).
nothing lasts forever of course but there's no reason to replace something that's not worn out or to assume that something is broken just because it has X amount of miles. |

I know some of you won't agree, but in the end with these cars you have 2 options, pay a lot of money to maintain it really well, or pay a lot of money for the repairs caused by lack of maintenance, it's either the one or the other.
With my E36, it was a little bit better, I mean it was expensive maintenance for the times (and you could also get away with some maintenance items), but the E90 is simply ridiculous... I love this car and didn't expect it to be cheap to maintain, but there are freaking limits, again this is not my first bmw 3rd and had other friend who owned other as well... Again this is in my case and I have to admit last owner didn't do a great job on the maintenance, so a lot of it fell on to me... EDIT: But yeah mechanically speaking I have 100 000+miles and the car drives like new... |

That right there is one of the things that I LOVE about these cars, I never got stranded never ever, no matter what the problem was with the car, it always run enough to get home! Even with a freaking differential in pieces (confirmed by garage it was an older e36) and still was able to make it home. |
