No amp???
So I am new to having an e90 but I thought that if I had the tweeters in the doors that meant I had the hifi stereo, but toys after some cleaning I started digging around and thought the amp was supposed to be in the trunk on the left side, so I checked and nothing but an empty compartment ! Am I missing something?
I have a 2010 335i Thanks for the help in advance

Thanks for the info.
I'm going to take a picture and post it just to make sure I'm not going crazy. I have nav and tweeters in the doors so I just figured that it was at least the Hifi option.

Here is the rear panel behind the drivers side. Is it me or shouldn't the amp be there?
I have listened to the base stereo with only 4 speakers in the past and mine definitely sounds better and is louder

Show us a picture of the tweeters.
Show us a picture of the tweeters.
Or what you think is the tweeters. There would be a wire Harness to that area of the trunk if there had been a Hi Fi amp there.(unless the theft is complete) Us 2010's either had the base stereo system the rest of the world got or L7 . The tweeters would be right next to the rearview mirrors. Its possible someone could have installed the BMW Alpine kit that would have given you tweeters or some other non OEM kit. |

Please post the last 7 of your VIN or use this Vin Decoder to determine your Audio Package:

FYI
http://musicarnw.com/bmw-factory-audio-explained/
You have tweeter in the place indicated above for Hi Fi. http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...4&d=1269999717 I would be looking under your trunk floor for this or an aftermarket amp if you have tweeters. Last edited by ctuna; 09-02-2014 at 12:23 PM.. |

yep that's a bmw tweeter pod.
If you were not the first person to buy it perhaps somebody elese
put something in it . I would start looking under the trunk covers for and aftermarket amp of some kind possibly the Alpine Kit as indicated in the thread I gave you . |

Ok so here is what I found out.
The previous owner had replaced the under seat woofers and had aftermarket wiring which did not work and bmw replaced the woofers and the wiring. I looked everywhere else in the trunk, and there is no amp. Since I just got the car I'm going to give my dealer a call and ask where the amp went!

Oh ok. I must have mis understood. I was under the impression hifi was available for 2010. So I guess I should be happy the previous owner added tweeters then.
Am I right in assuming that adding an amp to upgrade later on will mean I have to run all the wires to the trunk? Sorry if this has been answered already. Just been a little confusing that's all. Thanks

Hard to tell since prior work was done on the vehicle.
Going to guess there's some sort of crossover in the doors now for the tweeters, but otherwise, go read the Audio Table of Contents sticky at the top of the forum. You're most likely going to treat the system like a base audio system referenced in there. It's possible to get a harness to send a full range signal to the trunk by tapping under the seats. Technic makes one that does this, so get in touch with him. |

You really need to find out what's changed.
You really need to find out what's changed.
And you need to study the audio build thread till you understand the wiring for the stock system. You might have a BMW alpine system retrofit. The amp would be under the trunk floor in that case. The base system has some problems that need to be compensated for if you read the Audio Build thread or vist MusicarNW in that link I gave you it describes the audio problems . Also the front doors and floors are wired in parallel . A Technic Harness will take care of the wiring but you have to know where you are starting from and since its not stock you are going to have dig into the wiring if you can't track down who changed it. If you take the time to study those links under BMW stereo types most all your questions will be answered. |
