another stoopid oil cooler thread
yes, i have searched and was not able to find any definitive answers since it was buried within a ton of threads, each of which had a bunch of pages.
anyway, whats the deal with that additional oil cooler? is it included in all '08 335i's? if not, what factors determine whether or not you get one? is it sport package? manual transmission? both? i was at the dealership today and saw a '08 335xi coupe with sports package, manual transmission and it did NOT have the oil cooler in the wheel well. could this be because it is an xi? well my main concern is, will my '08 335i coupe with sports package and steptronic transmission have that oil cooler? thanks in advance for the help. |

All '08 335i's have it. It may not be on the Xi... did you check the wheel well on the Drivers side or passenger? (It is located in the Pass wheel well if you didn't know... and based on how dark it was... all you can really see are some louvers/vents.
Your car will have it. Dave

Confirmed. On my 08 XI, I didn't order the Sports package and I have no oil cooler. Doesn't matter to me because I won't be tracking this car and I won't be getting the Dinan flash. Despite my amblivalence, I think BMW is hiding the cost of the oil cooler in the sports package. The Sports Package for the XI is silly 18" wheels and sports seats....for $2300 or something like that.

yeah i do know its in the passenger wheel well... but just in case, i did look in both. and yeah, i do know what it looks like as i have seen it on other 335i's.
the 335xi that i saw did have the sport package and manual, but no 18" wheels. so all non-xi 335i with sport package should have the oil cooler right? regardless of the transmission? |

It looks like the sport package is a must for oil coolers.

the key is the speed limiter. if you have a 155mph limiter, and you're an 3/07 build or later you should have it. in order to have the 155mph limiter, you need to have tires rated for it, hence the sport package for the i's and the sport package with the 18" wheel upgrade for the xi's. xi's with just the sport package but without the wheel upgrade have the standard 128mph limiter and NO oil cooler.
you can tell if you have one by either inspecting the front of the front passenger side wheel well, you'll see a silver radiator, or under the hood, you'll have two rubber hoses coming out of the oil filter (its the round black cap at the front of the engine.)

No the definitive answer was already provided to you guys by sambonator.
Here it is again. For XI's you must have BOTH sport package AND 18" sport wheel upgrades. This combination will give you the air oil cooler and the higher speed limiter. The end. |
