328i top speed? Limited
So I read that the 328i is electronically limited to a top speed of 130 mph. Is that true? Because I swear I've gone 132 before, in a safe environment

i think 328s are limited to 135, but if you have sport pkg its lmited 155. Unlimited i think its in the 162 - 165 area.

Best you will see is 162.44 MPH (coded true speed) in 5th gear. Shifting to 6th caused top speed to drop off back to ~156.

would a stock 328 really be able to go 165mph, that's pretty fast for a car with such little hp, wind drag would kill it...

sport package is indeed 155 (250kph). I personally have no need to go that fast, but it would be pretty trivial to adjust the limiter on a non-sport package with something like OFT.

just as an FYI.. the variable that controls the top speed limit in the DME maxes out at "FF", or 255kph. There are probably ways to hack around that but the best you can do easily is 158mph through software. 260kph isn't possible unless you know something about 8 bit math that I don't..

I'd bet a lot that values outside a certain range are totally ignored as a fault check. For example, a limit of 45mph would be quite hazardous.

155 on mine(sport package). Only ever been brave enough to rack it up to 140. Also yes, in a safe place to do that. After tunnel vision kicks in I back out shortly after.

You'd be surprised at the level of thought that must go into software with respect to states that "will never happen" for everything to work as reliably as a car must. Keep in mind it's never the stuff you thought about that goes wrong.
