Surprise Surprise! New Injectors!

Hey folks,

I am sure the vast majority of us are aware that BMW has revised the injectors for our cars a few times. Recently they released what is known as Gen 2 injectors which are supposed to have been made with different machinery and they are supposed to have improved thermal oil and electronics inside of them. BMW states that those Gen2 injectors should not be mixed in the same bank with the outgoing Gen 1 injector, although I (and many others) have ran gen 1 and gen 2 injectors mixed in the same bank without issues.

The part number for Gen 2 injectors is well know: 13537585261-11, where the -11 stands for Integration Level 11.

Today I went to buy 2 more injectors to keep in stock as I used all of mine up and I discovered that BMW has released new injectors yet again. Their Integration level is -12

Does anyone know what has changed in the -12 injectors compared to the -11? I've never had a -11 fail on me, nor have I seen one being reported as failing online.

No. The 13538616079 is the part number for all injectors. This is the label that is being put on the white plastic screw tube that the injectors are packaged in. The actual injectors end on 261-12

Index "12" have been out for atleast 8 months now. I've seen a set fail on N63 so their not perfect but better than other designs. BMW says anything index 11 or higher can mix on the same bank but "11" or lower need to be replaced as a bank. IMO I think the failure has to be how the engine is driven. Im still running orignal "01" index with no issues.

01 index? Wow thought those were recalled. I was upgrade twice to index 8 and those failed. Recently bought 6 SMP injectors for 93$ each which apparently are BMW with out the dealer tax. They had a BMW logo and BMW party number on them and are made in Italy just like the OEM ones.

I got them from daves discount car parts or something. Then they had a 10% off coupon online. I check back and they raised the price $60. I wonder if I screwed them....... I saw them at a couple other places for 115$. Just google search Fj1050. Took me about a day to find the best deal.

Wow, thanks for that info! I wonder if you can mix them with OEM since its only 1,4 and 6 leaking! "only 1,4 and 6"

You can for sure mix them. BMW saws you cant mix anything with an undex of 10 And under and 11 and over in the same bank but others have done it with no I'll faded effects. I believe the OP was the first to mix it. The SMPs are 100% identical to the injector in the original post. I suspect intermotor (SMP - Standard motor products) supply injectors to BMW then BMW jacks up the price. Similar to Bosch and our BMW spark plugs.

other forums have suggested the SMP / FJ1050 is a "rebuilt" unit, it's "unreliable" etc... can anyone validate that they are indeed new non refurbished units?

Haha…in Cali you can’t even pass smog if you still have the original injectors; no recall sticker = automatic fail

Did research on them and they said they are 100% new with no used or refurbished parts. Everywhere I look it just says "New"

This is from the description of the website I got mine.

"The STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS contains no remanufactured components, and is designed to operate in either city or highway driving."

In anycase they're warrantied for 3 years or 36k miles. You have to send it back to them and they have to verify it is in fact broken but its better than the warranty BMW gives on them.

Dirty plugs, heavy smell of gas on start up, rough idle and I've changed everything I could besides the injectors. Including walnut blasting http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1041005

Those were my symptoms prior to injector swap. Typical symptoms of injectors.

Car is at the dealership, I hope they cover it. In Canada, we dont have the injectors recall like you guys in the US.
This morning car started really rough and white smoke was coming out of the exaust. Not drivable until I reached normal temperatures. Then everything is normal again.
SA was talking about something with wrong index numbers (last digit on the injectors -11, -12) might be the problem. He's trying to figure out if there's something he can do for me. I hope BMW covers it...

What's a good place to buy injectors? Is ebay reliable? They have it at 55$, which is suspicious as ECSTuning sells them for 151/each. I have 1 or 2 defective in Bank 1(will be confirmed by BMW tomorrow).

Their Goodwill (as I mentionned the Recall in the US and also the fact they replaced Bank 2 less than two years ago) is I pay 3 injectors (Bank 1) and the labor and they install the 3 others in Bank 2 free of charge. So I pay 2085$ and they pay 1300$. Sounds crazy isnt it?
