Any gains to modifying the stock airbox?

I liked my DCI when they were my only mod besides the jb4, but now that I'm FBO they're just additional noise (plenty going on now!). Planning on pulling them off and putting my stock airbox back with a k&n.

I'm seeing some pages about modifying the stock box by removing the charcoal filter, or adding another intake hole. Any real advantage to this besides sound? I'm more concerned with a stock look than a few hp here and there (dyno'd 420/440 wheel) but obviously I don't want the airbox to be my performance bottleneck.

Obviously it "sounds faster" without the charcoal filter, but on a boosted car the intake is rarely a significant restriction unless it can't move enough air (usually a intake size issue, not a filter/restriction issue with boosted cars as I understand it?)

Thoughts?
