Dinan reflash Dyno'd
Bob, a local BMW owner was nice enough to drop by the dyno shop today. He recieved the Dinan reflash the other day and accepted my open invitation to get dyno tested. His car is otherwise stock. It is also a 6MT. Gas is Shell 91oct. All tests were done in the same dynojet we always use.
Stock 6MT cars, on this dyno, put down 275-280whp and 280-290lb-ft of torque. We've probably dyno'd 50 335s on this particular dynojet over the last year. Bob's car put down 313-318whp. With most of the runs in the 314-315whp range. Torque was in the mid 340s. We also did some runs with the airbox lid removed (basically eliminating any intake box restriction) and it made no difference to power. I'll post up the graphs when I get back home later tonight. Big thanks to Bob who took time off his work to drive out to Livermore. He was also nice enough to let me drive his car. Of course, I returned the favor. Interestingly enough, the differences between v2 and the Dinan reflash are most obvious at low throttle angles. The Dinan flashed car feels basically stock until 70-80% throttle. Wheveas the v2'd car feels substantially stronger than stock even at 20-30% throttle. Very different feelings. Both perfectly fine. At full throttle, they are different obviously. Of course, my car had an exhaust and intake so direct max power comparisons cannot be made. I'll post up the dyno graphs up later tonight. It's been a looong day on the dyno. Cheers, Shiv Last edited by OpenFlash; 12-28-2007 at 10:16 PM.. |

I'm confused as well.....maybe octane was the issue?

Furthermore, in no way was I implying the results were less than accurate.

Sounds about right on... as expected.
I'd of thought it would of made a bit more torque with 13.2 psi, but if that psi comes on more after 3800 rpms rather than below it, then I can understand that. Again, seems very similiar to v1.4 PROcede, with the exception of a bit less torque. I dynoed my sedan twice on v1.2 and then again on v1.4 on Harman's Dynojet and got: 311 rwhp / and can't remember torque but think it was around 353 With v1.4 it was: 313 rwhp / ~358 rwtq However, on another dynojet with my coupe on v1.47 I did: 331 rwhp 366 rwtq So, as you can see each dynojet is different. PROcede v1 gets high torque numbers because of the big turbo boost kick in the 3200-3400 rpm range, but then tapers from there. Without that big boost kick at 3200 or so rpms, it's torque numbers would probably be in the 340's as well. But again, those numbers seem to be right where I'd expect them to be from the Dinan flash. Very similiar to PROcede v1 power levels, but with less torque down low. Actually, I'd bet the Dinan flash would mirror the standard JB2 power levels pretty much to a "T" A good safe, conservative tune with smooth power delivery. |

I look forward to seeing the Dinan dynos too. They talk about rolling off torque in the high rpm range.....this means low HP and slower acceleration. It is all about the torque in the last 2000 rpm.

![]() I have only dynoed the 2 335i's I've had a total of 5 times, each with various levels of tunes. I "might" dyno one more time when v2.0.3 comes out, but with the wonderful datalogging ability of v2, I don't feel the need to dyno as much in the future now with the 335i. Plus what's a couple Andrew Jackson's when you get to hang with some cool car guys for a few hours, shoot the sh1t and talk cars, plus see what your own car is doing powerwise. ![]() |

Sounds about right for 91 octane. Remember that version 2.0x user adjustable % cannot be set too high without problems.
Shiv, it is really a classy move on your part to post Dynos for the competition, we sure appreciate the comparison. What do you think it would have done using 93 octane? Also, is there a way to overlap the Dinan graph with the proceed so we can see the differences? Thanks again for this contribution, you are a class act. |

If 91 octane made 314 whp would 93 octane make more whp?
If its possible it would be great to get the same guy back and mix in some race gas to see what effect 93+ octane would have. It's nice to know that changing just the intake will have no benefit. |

$2,200 (Dinan ECU Flash + $200 labor) - $1,450 (PROcede v2 w/o C-Reader tool) = $750 difference.

sflgator, when i get back in town maybe we can head to the dyno and do a comparison since we are both close to stock except for wheels and a filter on your car.

You have to send the ecu to dinan but it is a 1 day turn around. You drop off the car monday, they ship, Dinan ships back tuesday, you get the car Wednesday.

If you have an '07 335i, then your Dinan Certified BMW dealer (not all BMW dealers) will flash it for you (via the OBDII port), and if you have an '08 335i, they'll take out your ECU and ship it to Dinan to flash and send it back to you.
