Transmission Lurch = New Transmission

My wife recently took her 2009 335d in for Platinum Extended Vehicle Protection Plan for:

-Paint peeling at front bumper/spoiler

-Possible Carbon Build-Up (CBU)

-Transmission "lurch" out of 2nd gear primarily

Paint issue was immediately dismissed. CBU was looked into, but no codes, and "minimal" carbon build-up noted with bora-scope. Service Advisor's boss tried to lecture my wife about "Ethanol in the fuel" causing CBU; she immediately set him straight and embarrassed him in from of his subordinate.

She was picking up the "D," and was told that no transmission "lurch" could be noted; she asked to take a Service Advisor or Tech for a drive, and they agreed. Her car is now getting a brand new transmission shipped from Germany! The EVP Warranty just paid for itself, though it seems excessive.

Prior to Media (Walnut) Blasting protocol by BMW, she had the entire engine head replaced for CBU (had a check engine light).

Have any of you guys had a similar experience?

With 53K on the clock our 2011 D is still young. Had an injector code for a while and associated miss at idle. When talking to the SA, he said it's probably just a coil or a spark plug. While I know there is diesel training and certification for the mechanics, there is obviously nothing for the SAs. I set him straight very quickly.

I ran the car very hard by putting in sport mode and sprinting up to over 100 at full throttle a few times. Everything cleared up right after that, for now anyway.

I also have peeling paint on the front bumper cover, but as my car was formally a service loaner it was obviously resprayed and improperly prepped. But at this point it's pretty much sandblasted anyway from all the crap on the roads here in the NE.

realOEM list it about $5900. You can get it from an online dealer for more like $4900 or $5400 if you want to keep the old one.

Who thinks an indy would be willing to take a rebuild job? Probably could find someone by searching the 335i pages since it oughta be basically the same aside from some differences in clutches and a couple hard parts

Thanks Hooper, just curious. Hendrick BMW is taking care of it under EVP; new transmission cost is just over $78.00, wish I could keep the core and sell it!

can you get ahold of a parts diagram? Im curious how significant the differences are between a 6hp16 and a 6hp26. If its small like the difference between a 4l60 and 4l65 (couple hard parts basically) or if its big like between a 4l60 and 4l80 (completely different probably not a single interchangeable part). If it starts from a similar point your search could probably include 335i transmissions.
