New Spec Clutch, Weird Sound

Whats going on guys? I just installed a Spec Stage 3+ clutch with the Spec single mass flywheel in my 2007 335i. Everything is done I changed the fluid to Redline MT-90, UUC Polyurethane transmission mounts with billet enforcer cups. BMS clutch delay valve and a new flex disc. Now my issue is that when engaged in gear and driving up the RPM's the car starts making a kind of grinding sound when getting up to speed. I will post a video, its pretty damn loud inside the cabin.

My spec 2+ smfw setup make wierd low rpm noises too. I'm pretty sure it's normal.

So you got that marbles in transmission sounds when cruising in the under 3500 rpm range? Just sounds concerning because a buddy with a N54 said only sound should be is at idle.

The sound will be there at idle with the clutch pedal out. It will also be there on acceleration in the low RPM range to about 2k RPM. Its coming from the gearbox and not the clutch itself. Race car noises normal, nothing to worry about

I know the noise you mean. It only happens under full load about 1800rpm to 2500rpm. The higher the gear the more pronounced it is. I don't have a spec clutch etc, but I do have a locally manufactured smfw and clutch.

I do however, also use the thinner auto tranny fluid.

One thing I forgot to mention, going back to OEM transmission mounts will help lower the NVH you're having. You can try removing just the solid enforcer cups first to see if it improves.

Just had a spec single mass flywheel installed today, with the same bushings and removal of the clutch delay valve. Used the 550i clutch. The sounds you're describing are expected.

Yes and I've heard of other people mention this problem also. It's the price you pay for a performance clutch. Fwiw I used the Uuc redline transmission fluid cocktail and the gear rattle is gone at idle except for when the a/c is on. Even then it is much more quiet.

I will pull the mounts off and put OEM ones back and see if the NVH goes away. Would you consider a good amount of it to decrease with the OEM mounts? Also i will be doing the hotter climate mix for my transmission so its one bottle of MT-90 and it said one bottle of 75W140NS, what is recommended for that bottle?

These noises, along with decreased clutch life are why I often steer people away from performance clutch/flywheel packages. Unless you are racing for tenths of a second, the compromises are not worth it.

These noises are the EXACT reason why I go for these kind of modicfications.

You guys should hear my Z06. It came with a DVD on all the sounds and clunks it makes that are "normal". It still bugs me out to this day all the noises I hear in the drivetrain.

If you are staying on stock turbo's, stick with the upgraded clutch and DMFW.

If you are going with upgraded turbo's you will need to convert to the single mass flywheel. The SMFW by no accident will have more chatter noises and other oddities, because Race Car.

Haha love that phrase, I am going to go bigger turbos not sure if I want single or bigger twins. One reason why I upgraded to the single mass. The noises blow balls but I am switching back to rubber mounts. Just ordered on worldpac the OEM ones and a botlle of redline 75-140ns and MT-90. Will chime in once all in.

Just an update, I swapped out the fluid and put Redline 75W140NS and a bottle of Redline MT-90 along with new OEM transmission mounts. A good 75-80% of the sound has went away and it shifts like butter. Just future reference for anyone who comes across the same issue I had.
